Infant reported missing from Bloomington area

A missing infant is sought by Bloomington police, per a bulletin from law enforcement.

Officers said the missing 7-month-old child is Zaraz V. Walker of Bloomington. The child was reported missing at about 11:20 p.m. Sunday.

Police said Walker is missing "under unknown circumstances."

BPD: Missing infant not reported for 5 to 7 days

Somewhere out there is a 7-month-old baby girl gone missing. On Monday, Bloomington Police spokesperson John Fermon said Zaraz V. Walker was last seen five to seven days ago.

"We're not ruling out the possibility that some person may have the baby and taken care of her and hasn't reached out to the police, or doesn't know who to reach out to," said Fermon.

Police aren't saying who reported the child missing Sunday night, or much else, including answers to such questions as where did the parents think the girl was, or why she wasn't reported missing earlier. Fermon said the investigation is in its early stages and police hope the public will help find the child.

"Maybe you were at a gas station a couple days ago and you saw a 7-month-old juvenile baby or infant and thought something was off. Give us a call. We're just really looking for any tips," said Fermon, adding police also are asking other agencies if someone has found an unidentified child.

is it just me or did we seem to have a bit of a lull and now these cases are ramping up again? Not another one :(

Not enough known to say yet but first read makes me think of Amiah (last name Robertson I think). That one is uncharged, baby not found and a lot of who had her last in it and when did she actually go missing... She is one that stays with me and I think I recently bumped her thread.

But no info here yet to know what the deal is it appears...

There is one thing we always know in infant cases, they did not walk out the back door and get lost in the woods.

Woman arrested as investigation continues into missing infant

A woman has been arrested for two counts of felony child endangerment as the investigation continues into a still-missing 7-month old infant.

Kimberlee A. Burton, 29, of Bloomington was already in the McLean County Jail after being arrested for retail theft.

After that arrest, the father of two of Burton’s children has his mother come pick up a 5 and 6-year-old - only finding those two children at the residence.

At around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Bloomington Police received a call requesting a well-being check on an infant who was also living with Burton.

According to a release, officers learned that the father of the infant, Zaraz V. Walker, may have lived in Illinois or Florida. Officers began calling different areas and police departments where the father may be contacted with negative results.

At around 7 a.m. Monday, officers began a neighborhood canvas in the 300 block of East Wood Street and searched the surrounding areas for any evidence of the infant - continuing throughout the day and night.

Burton was arrested around 5 p.m. for felony child endangerment for the 5 and 6-year-old who were left at her residence without supervision after her initial arrest.

“We implore members of the community to view at Zaraz’s and Burton’s photo and to please call us with any tips or information,” said police chief Jamal Simington. “We believe Zaraz was last seen 5 - 7 days ago, and could be anywhere.”

So, the mother wasn't arrested because of her missing baby rather shoplifting. I wonder if the two other children have been interviewed? Quite a lot of details missing which leads to too much speculation.

hopefully the baby was taken somewhere to be watched prior to her shoplifting episode, but then why leave the others by themselves? Yep, the kids hold most of the answers, it seems.

Yes. But only initially arrested for the shoplifting. Now she's being held on child endangerment charges for leaving the other kiddos home alone.

It seems something is still missing here. It says the kids were left at her apartment after her initial arrest. Were they alone and she went off shopping/shoplifting for hours before arrest or they were only alone after her arrest? I am not sticking up for her at all, just wondering. Because if she was a single mother and the kids for instance were at school, day care etc. and she was to be home when they got home but was arrested instead, it's a bit different. Then she would have to call someone to cover the children and LE would have to let her or she couldn't do that. And it seems perhaps that is what happened with the dad's mom of the two picking up two of the kids. She got to make a phone call maybe and tried to ensure they were taken care of and his side get them as she couldn't?

The infant is a different story and less said there really. That is a big concern.

As far though as how this came about is hard to say. One father's family of two children may not have been willing to pick up the one (infant) not theirs or someone picked up the infant but not the older two who then were picked up by their paternal side. Was she trying to find someone to cover them on arrest or did she leave them all home alone for some time...?

Not saying anything about guilt or innocence, just that there is a lot missing yet.

Definitely a lot of details missing.

When the family of the older two came to pick them up, they said they were alone. Did they question where the infant was? Did they just assume someone else had already come to pick her up?

When mom was arrested, she would have apparently told authorities that she had children at home, or she called their father to come get them because she'd been arrested. Did she also report that she had an infant with another father? Did she call that man as well?

Who exactly requested a well-being check? "Could not locate anyone who was taking care of the infant"? Do they normally see someone taking care of her? Do they know she's left alone until mom comes home and mom didn't come home? Why would they be concerned in these circumstances without knowing more?

Is mom cooperating? What does she say about the last time she saw her child, 5-7 days ago? Why would she not have reported not seeing her child for 5 days?

What do the two older children have to say? Is that where they got the "5-7 days" timeframe from?

I'm thinking that "possibly" she told them to call somebody to pick up her kids when she was arrested and when that person got there, there was no baby and just the kids and questions ensued from there. Questions to the kids might have further alarmed them.

Yes, one part missing is was the infant at home or supposed to be and has mom said so? Or not? What did mom say? All missing.

Could the baby have been with someone and she just doesn't want to say, scared of losing the child, whether custody fight, CPS, etc.

So many possibilities here. I sure hope it isn't the other usual outcome...

‘Zaraz Could Be Anywhere’: Missing 7-Month-Old’s Disappearance Not Reported for a Week

Walker remains unaccounted for as of Wednesday.

“We’re not ruling out the possibility that some person may have the baby and taken care of her and hasn’t reached out to the police, or doesn’t know who to reach out to,” police spokesperson John Fermon told WGLT.

so obviously mom isn't cooperating and I don't like the usual outcome when that happens.

Bond set for Bloomington woman charged with child endangerment; search for infant continues

As teams continued to search Wednesday for a missing infant in Bloomington, bond was set for her mother, who faces child endangerment charges relating to two of her other children.

Kimberlee A. Burton, 29, Bloomington, remains jailed in lieu of posting $10,035 on two charges of child endangerment, which are Class A misdemeanors. She also was ordered to have no contact with each of her four children.

Officer John Fermon, a spokesman for Bloomington police, told The Pantagraph they've been searching for Walker over the last two or three days. He said on Wednesday crews searched near the 300 block of East Wood Street, plus the vicinity to the south by Evergreen Cemetery.

Fermon said they've had different officers from several shifts looking for the infant. He said BPD had no updates to release early Thursday afternoon on the investigation.

"We're looking at it from all angles," said Fermon, noting that includes positive ones and the "worst-case scenario."

He said they've brought in extra help from other professional organizations to assist search efforts.

BPD is still looking for the community's help and input to learn where the infant could be, Fermon said.

Burton is due back in court March 2 for an arraignment.

7-month-old still missing after mother's arrest
A 7-month-old girl is still missing after nearly a week of searching.

The father of two of Burton's children, a 5-year-old and a 6-year-old, had them picked up.

When the two children were being picked up, officers noticed they were the only children at the home.

The next evening, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Bloomington Police received a call from someone concerned about the infant, 7-month-old Zaraz Walker, as they couldn't locate anyone taking care of her. That's when the search began.

Burton was arrested at 5 p.m. Monday on two counts of felony Child Endangerment for the two young children who were left at her home without supervision after her arrest.

Chief Jamal Simington said, "It is imperative that we continue to leverage the appropriate resources in this investigation to locate Zaraz. We are actively seeking tips and information regarding her location. No matter how small of a detail it is, we would you like to contact us if you have seen her since December 2021. We are pushing forward with a diligent investigation but do not have additional details to share with the public at this time."

Police chief pleads with public to help find missing Bloomington baby

Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington is appealing to the public to provide tips that might help investigators find seven-month old infant Zaraz V, Walker.

Simington released a statement Friday saying police want to talk to anyone who spoke to or had contact with the baby or her mother, Kimberlee Burton, who is jailed on child endangerment charges involving two older children.

“No matter how small of a detail it is, we would like you to contact us if you have seen her since December 2021,” said Simington. People with information are asked to call Bloomington Police Sgt. Detective Jared Bierbaum at 309-434-2807. Bierbaum can also be reached at jbierbaum@cityblm.org.

“We are pushing forward with a diligent investigation but do not have additional details to share with the public at this time,” the chief also said.

This one is a bit confusing. So above it sounds like officers were along when the father picked up the other two children. This would seem to indicate she was arrested for shoplifting as I think it said and then she told the officers there would be no one to cover the children if she couldn't go home or LE knew she had children and went to check and/or called the father to come get them to cover them? There is a piece missing. Cops don't arrest someone for anything and then go to their apartment after taking them to jail. She must have told them but if they were alone why would she? I'd think she'd just ask for a phone call to call the dad herself. And then why not call the infant's dad or grandma or someone? Because the infant was already with someone and cared for? And then why not share that info with the cops? Maybe she doesn't want to chance losing the infant to the dad or CPS or something? Or the infant is not alive.

The other part that is odd is the cops didn't apparently know there should have been an infant or they would have been asking before someone later called about it and now they confirm the infant wasn't there when they were. I still am unsure why the cops would be there in the first place...

Kind of just working out my thoughts as I put them down.

Bloomington mom arrested for concealing death

Already in the McLean County Jail for other offenses, a Bloomington mom has now been arrested for concealment of death.

Kimberlee Burton was arrested as a result of an ongoing investigation in her missing seven-month-old daughter, Zaraz V. Walker.

A formal criminal charge is pending review by the McLean County States Attorney’s office, and bond court is expected to take place Friday.

After her arrest, Rigdon said the children called their father, saying that “Mom is gone.” He sent their grandmother, who was in Chicago at the time, to Bloomington to pick up the kids.

During the pick-up, the grandmother noted the state of the home. She said the door was unlocked, and the house was both dirty and cold.

She also noticed the two children were the only ones in the home, and both were hungry and not wearing underwear.

Rigdon said it appeared the children had been left alone for hours.

While Bloomington police were able to locate three of the children, the infant, seven-month-old Zaraz V. Walker, was not there.

Burton had told police that she has no children, and Rigdon had concerns that she may have mental health issues.

Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington said, “Although an arrest has been made in this investigation, our work is not complete. We will continue to investigate all leads in order to locate missing Zaraz and we need your help. We also ask the public to understand our reluctance to share information about the case, as it may interfere with our investigation. When the time is appropriate or it helps us locate Zaraz, we will share more information. ”
