During a news conference on Friday, Ansonia police said they have charged Jose Morales with murder. Bond for Jose Morales was set at $5 million.

Authorities said he is Vanessa’s father and was dating Christine.

The search continues for the baby.

"To this day, we continue to follow every possible lead in trying to locate baby Vanessa," Ansonia Police Chief Andrew Cota said Friday.

"I hope this arrest helps bring some closure to the Holloway family. I will also add that we will continue our search for baby Vanessa in hopes of returning her home safely," Cota said.

ANSONIA, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut police have been searching for evidence in the case of a missing 1-year-old in the area where a discarded child’s car seat was recently found.

Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch confirmed to Hearst Connecticut Media that investigators were sent Monday to the BJ’s Wholesale Club on Division Street. He declined further comment “to maintain the integrity of the investigation.”

According to Hearst, a shopper spotted the car seat and reported it to police. Hearst said it appeared to look like the Graco car seat police last week asked people watch out for. At a Dec. 19 news conference, Lynch showed images of several items, including a Graco car seat with a teething ring attached. The items were not in the house when Holloway’s body was found.

“We believe these items may be with Vanessa or they may have been discarded at some point,” Lynch said last week. “If any of the items are located they should not be touched” and police should be immediately contacted.

Here is a fairly recent article confirming that the father has been arrested for the mother's murder and they are hoping this spurs some information on the child. Just a short article about 18 hours ago.

A Connecticut man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that he killed his girlfriend, who was the mother of his still-missing toddler.

Also noted in the article... Jose Morales has the same attorney as Fotis Dulos. Attorney's name is Norman Pattis.

While the Amber Alert continues for missing baby Vanessa Morales of Ansonia, her father and the prime suspect in the disappearance appeared in court Wednesday on unrelated weapons charges.

His legal team says they are trying to transfer the weapons charges to Milford Superior Court.

Morales remains in the custody of New Haven authorities and is being held on $250,000 bond.

Search continues for Connecticut toddler missing for 6 months

It’s been six months since a Connecticut toddler went missing.

Police said their investigation into her disappearance is still active and they believe Vanessa is alive.

“Our detectives are very much still very actively investigating it. Our goal is to find Vanessa and bring her home to her family,” said Lt. Patrick Lynch.

Police said Morales hasn’t told them anything about his daughter’s whereabouts.

“We believe he has information and were hoping at some point, hell provide us with the information thatll help us find Vanessa,” said Lt. Lynch.

Police are reminding the public about items missing from the home, including a Graco car seat, a polka dot blanket, a Eddie Bauer backpack/diaper bag and a teething ring.

“We just ask that people keep a lookout for that and contact us. It doesn’t matter whether you believe its inconsequential or not, we can make that determination. We’d rather go and look at something that doesn’t have anything to do with the case than miss something that could help us find Vanessa,” said Lt. Lynch.

There is still a $10,000 reward for information leading to Vanessa’s return and he family continues to hold out hope.

‘Peanut, we’re still looking for you’: Family pleads for help finding Vanessa Morales

Sunday marks eight months and counting for the nightmare consuming Jodi Jacobellis and her family: the disappearance of Vanessa Morales.

“It’s been s tough eight months not knowing where Vanessa is, being without Chrissy,” Jacobellis said.

Ansonia police said they continue to get new tips but not as many now since the beginning of their search in December.

They believe Vanessa is still alive because of some baby items that were taken when Vanessa disappeared — a Greco car seat, a polka-dotted blanket, a grey-colored Eddie Bauer book bag or diaper bag and teething rings that may be in that bag. None of those items have been found thrown away on the street or in a garbage dumpster.

There’s a $10,000 reward for Vanessa’s safe return. Both the family and police said whoever had Vanessa will not face punishment. They all just want her returned safe and sound.

Vanessa Morales, missing toddler, turns 2 years old

Supporters and well-wishers of the little toddler who disappeared after the murder of her mother are marking a special event on Monday.

Vanessa Morales turned 2 years old on Sept. 7. Instead of a birthday cake and candles, the anniversary of her birth was being marked by prayers and renewed calls for information about her whereabouts.

“Sweet peanut, two years ago today you entered this world,” wrote a family member, Danielle Marie McCormack, “September 7th will always be a good day. It’s the day you entered our hearts and because of that we are forever changed. Happy Birthday my peanut. Please know we are here, we aren’t going anywhere and we love and miss you beyond words.”

Ansonia police are still investigating the little girl’s disappearance and believe she is alive. Authorities have asked anyone with information about her whereabouts to call Ansonia police at 203-735-1885 or the FBI at 1-800-225-5324.

NEWS 8 Exclusive: Family of missing Ansonia girl and murdered mom speak out almost a year later

Their world changed on December 2, 2019. That’s the day Ansonia mom Christine Holloway didn’t show up for work. Her employer requested a welfare check. Ansonia Police officers ended up finding her beaten to death at her home. But, her one-year-old daughter, Vanessa Morales, was nowhere to be found. The police came to the conclusion that Vanessa was kidnapped.

She’s been missing ever since.

“We are shattered,” said Danielle Holloway, Christine’s sister-in-law and Vanessa’s aunt. “We’re looking every single day for her (Vanessa). And we’re not going to give up until she’s home, until she’s back home with us.”

There’s a $10,000 reward leading to Vanessa’s safe return. Ansonia Police have said whoever turns her in will not face charges. Danielle says the main thing is for Vanessa to be back where she belongs — safe with her loved ones.

“We need her back,” Danielle said. “She’s the light of our lives….I miss her every single day.”

For the second January in a row, a false Vanessa Morales sighting has grabbed law enforcement attention — this time after a toddler who resembled her was found by police in California.

In a statement Tuesday afternoon, Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch said the department “received information” on Monday “regarding a child found wandering around an apartment complex in San Diego.”

“A photo of the child posted online by local authorities and the media had a strong resemblance to Vanessa Morales,” Lynch said. “The San Diego Sheriff’s Department was contacted but the child was not Vanessa Morales.”

I guess at least it's positive in that it shows people are still aware and watching for her but I wonder had this child not been wandering and had been with someone whether they would have called it in.

Vanessa Morales was 1 year old at the time of her disappearance. She is now almost 2 and a half years old.
