ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Man faces murder charge in Michigan 39 years after baby went missing

Thirty-nine years after an infant girl went missing and after decades of pursuit of a criminal prosecution, the ex-husband of a long-missing child's mother is being charged with murder.

Isiah Williams is in the process of being extradited from Chicago on a charge of open murder in the case of Olisa Williams, the Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced this week.

On Thursday, speaking to the press alongside Ann Arbor Police Chief Michael Cox, Nessel said it's believed Isiah Williams killed the child in an effort to control the child's mother, Denise Frazier-Daniel, as part of a cycle of domestic abuse.

Victoria Farish Weiss, 27, is charged with possession of a Schedule 1 drug, according to warrants.

“We became involved in this case Sept. 23 after we received word a Rocky Creek Elementary School student picked a pack of marijuana edibles out of a box full of candy Weiss used to reward students,” said Koon. “Detectives confirmed during interviews that Weiss took the pack of edibles from the student and told him to pick something else from the box.” The student went back to the box and happened to grab another pack of edibles.”

No students ate the edibles, according to Koon.

Divers find SUV of missing Ohio mom, 2 children on river bottom after nearly 20 years

Authorities in Ohio long suspected that Stephanie “Van” Nguyen had driven her car, with herself and her two young children inside, into the Ohio River.

On Wednesday, they got one step closer to proving that was the case.

Nguyen’s green 1997 Nissan Pathfinder was pulled from the Ohio River by dive teams from the Hamilton County Police Association and the Indiana Department of National Resources. According to police in Delhi Township, where the case originated, the vehicle was located in the murky water in Aurora, Indiana.

Nguyen was 26 years old when she vanished April 18, 2002, with her daughter, Kristina “Hang” Nguyen, 4, and her 3-year-old son, John “Tai” Nguyen. According to the Charley Project, which tracks missing persons cases, Nguyen had expressed suicidal ideation.

“She left behind notes for her husband and parents saying her failed marriage had driven her to death, and she was going to kill herself and her children by driving into the Ohio River near the Grand Victoria Casino,” the site states.

A Texas school district has once again become the center of controversy after an administrator reportedly instructed teachers to provide students with "opposing" views of the Holocaust.

Gina Peddy, the executive director of curriculum and instruction for the Carroll Independent School District in Southlake, Texas, is alleged to have made the comments during a meeting last Friday, according to NBC News, which obtained audio of the meeting from an unnamed employee. Peddy was reportedly meeting with teachers to instruct them on how to stock their classroom libraries when the subject of recent statewide legislation, as well as the Holocaust, came up.

"Just try to remember the concepts of [House Bill] 3979," Peddy could be heard saying on tape, according to NBC News. "And make sure that if you have a book on the Holocaust, that you have one that has an opposing, that has other perspectives."

House Bill 3979, which went into effect last month, mandates, among other things, that if public school teachers choose to discuss current events or widely debated or controversial public policy or social issues, they should present numerous points of view "without giving deference to any one perspective."

A teacher at the meeting asked, "How do you oppose the Holocaust?" Peddy responded, "Believe me. That's come up," according to NBC News.

We are officially one of the worst countries in the world now. This is the type of thing that dictators order schools to do. Yes, I read the article and know the house members who voted for it say the law is being misinterpreted. Technically it's not. It appears that what is viewed as fact can be subjective in some minds.

22 some minutes in. Less than two minutes total. Re Prince Andrew. Epstein. Etc.

British police have decided yada yada yada, not to charge Andrew... Thank goodness there are no big names in this case on all sides of the political spectrum and more than one country... (sarcasm--of course that's not true...) That poor man committing suicide in no less than a big metro jail in NYC... Psheesh. And his poor helpless honey Ghislaine... I mean let's talk trafficking and the rich and powerful...

Maybe at our new manor Chuck can fill us in on his little brother... I mean if he and Cam can take a break from their canoodling... Those two waited a darned long time to be together ... Where are those tapes these days? Hearing Chad Daybell's weird little romance story to Lori with their "pet names" actually made me think of Charles and Camilla... Didn't they play a little occult/dark side/kind of thing? What sayeth the Queen?
