Local law enforcement conduct canvas search for missing mother, son

The Jackson Police Department, along with local, state and community partners, conducted a canvas search on July 20 in the Jackson, Seaboard and Weldon communities, looking for information on the whereabouts of Sharbrina McGee and her 3-year-old son Khance who were reported missing.

On July 22, The Herald reached out to Jackson Police Chief Brenda E. Burnett to ask when the mother and son were reported missing.

“A missing person report was filed on June 29, 2024, but family said she was missing 30 to 60 days prior to filing the report,” she said.

“I would like to thank the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, Northampton County Emergency Management, Northampton County Search and Rescue Team, Northampton County C.E.R.T Team, NC Department of Adult Corrections, Rich Square, Garysburg and Roanoke Wildwood Fire Departments, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and Weldon Police Department for participating in the search,” Chief Burnett said in a press release received July 22.

Law enforcement searching for missing mother and son
Jackson Police Chief Brenda Burnette told the News-Herald that Sharbrina McGee, age 26 of Jackson, and her three-year-old son, Khance, were reported missing by her family on June 29. The family told Chief Burnette, however, that she had been missing 30-60 days before they reported it.

“There’s no evidence of foul play at this time,” Burnette said, but added that they are not ruling anything out as they continue the search.

On Saturday, the department and several other organizations conducted a door-to-door canvass in Jackson, Seaboard, and Weldon.

“We were able to get flyers with their pictures and information into community hands,” said Burnette. “We did get some leads and we are following up with them.”

Jackson police search for missing woman and 3-year-old son

Jackson police are searching for a missing 26-year-old woman and her 3-year-old son.

Sharbrina McGee and her son were reported missing in June after her family hadn't seen her for more than a month.

Markina Robinson is a friend of McGee.

"For nobody to hear from her, it's odd," she said.

Robinson said it's unusual not to hear back from her friend after making a call.

"I call her every day, I call her phone, I call her Facebook messenger every day to see if she's going to pick up," Robinson said.

Jackson police tell WRAL News that McGee was living on Atherton Street near downtown Jackson around the time she went missing.

On July 20, the Jackson Police Department and several other law enforcement agencies canvassed this area, looking for McGee and her son.

Jackson Police Chief Brenda Burnette said she's following some leads and looking into potential sightings of McGee and her son.

Robinson wakes up every day, hopeful that her friend will be found.

"I just want them to be okay; I just want them to be safe," Robinson said.

NC mother, 3-year-old son missing since June could be in Matthews area

A missing mother and child from northeastern North Carolina could be in the Matthews area, the Matthews Police Department says.

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding 26-year-old Shabrina McGee and her three-year-old son, who were reported missing by her mother on June 29. McGee’s family has not seen her since May.

McGee was last seen in the Seaboard area of Northhampton County, N.C. on June 27, according to Jackson Police. A few days later, she was possibly spotted about 18 miles away, in Emporia, Virginia.

On July 20, authorities went door-to-door in Weldon, N.C., seeking information on the two. Police have been following leads in both North Carolina and Virginia.

On August 2, Matthews Police put out a call to residents saying, “There is information that they could be in our area.”

McGee doesn’t have a car, so it’s unclear how she and her son are getting around.

Sure seems like something happened to them, otherwise how are they taking care of themselves like food and shelter? Seems like no job or collecting benefits, so how?

Couldn't find the article to go with the video the other day but here it is.

Community rallies for missing Jackson mother and toddler, six months after their disappearance

The Jackson Police Department is looking for a missing woman and her 3-year-old son more than six months after their disappearance.

WRAL News reported in July 2024 that Sharbrina McGee and her son were reported missing in June after her family hadn't seen her for more than a month.

Jackson police tell WRAL that McGee was living on Atherton Street near downtown Jackson when she went missing.

On July 20, the Jackson Police Department and several other law enforcement agencies canvassed that area, looking for McGee and her son.

Cynthia Harvey said a day doesn't go by that she doesn't think of her friend.

"I don't take the best friend title. I was her sister before anything," she said.

Harvey said the two grew up together, and she stays in contact with McGee's family.

"We've been doing our own investigating. [We've been] talking to people and asking around," she said.

In a statement, Jackson Police Chief Brenda Burnette said the department follows up on leads daily.

"We have entered them into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database and are also working with local, state and federal authorities while following up on all leads."

Harvey said she feels like updates have been few and far between and wishes there was more public transparency around the case.

"I think they should update us every 30 days. The fact that it is a baby and mother involved. This shouldn't be something you let up on," Harvey said.

Burnette said she has provided updates to the immediate family and is working to bring the two home.

"We are working hard to bring Sharbrina and Khance back to their family. They have not been forgotten."
