The Nebraska State Patrol has issued an Endangered Missing Advisory for a boy with autism missing from La Vista, near Omaha.

According to a release, Ryan Larsen, 11, was last seen leaving school Monday at La West Elementary.

‘Ultimate game of hide-and-seek,’ search for missing La Vista child continues

The Nebraska State Patrol issues an Endangered Missing Advisory for a La Vista boy.

Ryan Larsen was last known to be in the area of 78th Street and Terry Drive in La Vista around 12:00 pm on Monday.

Authorities say Ryan has autism, is an 11-year-old white male, 5′ 8″, about 125 lbs with brown hair and hazel eyes. Ryan was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, an Old Navy shirt, and had a polka-dotted umbrella.

“We have no reason to suspect anything other than he walked away,” commented a spokesperson for the La Vista Police Department. “Right now we are just looking for a little boy who is playing the ultimate game of hide-and-seek.”

The official explained that La Vista police has dealt with Larsen before.

“He does like to hide he does like to get away, he likes to hide in small places.”

Larsen is a high-functioning child on the autism spectrum, who police say is non-verbal with anyone he is uncomfortable around. They believe he was in between classes when he slipped away from the school.

It's probably because he hasn't been found, the school had no surveillance, they were searching six to seven miles away and because things are necessarily withheld so it makes no sense, that I am starting to feel there is something off with this case or something more to it.

Why for instance is there not one even grainy picture shared of surveillance video/security cam footage shared from ANYWHERE that day or thereafter? In a six mile range/stretch?? From town??

La Vista police on missing boy: No sign of abduction or criminal intent

As the search for a missing 11-year-old boy with autism centered around one of the busiest parts of town Tuesday, La Vista police see no evidence of a crime.

Ryan Larsen was last seen leaving school 15 days ago and according to police there is no sign of an abduction or any criminal intent.

Sister says says mom of missing Nebraska boy is ‘barely getting by’

Ryan Larsen’s sister, a missing 11-year-old boy, defended her family on social media on Monday, publicly saying that criticism was hurtful.

She started posting in appreciation of the people who supported the search, but soon moved on to a message to those who criticized her family.

“I’m sure some people don’t understand how painful it is to read these posts and comments about us. For those who criticize our choice, this never happens to your family. We have been told not to go out from the beginning. For media other than media and social media, we didn’t know why at first, but now people’s words are so mean, We understand how easy it is for our words to twist, “writes Taylor Larsen. Public Facebook group“ What you say is like kicking when someone is depressed. Believe me. I’m doing everything I can to bring Ryan home.”

Ryan Larsen search: Authorities reviewing information from La Vista neighborhood canvas

Officials with the La Vista Police Department said Wednesday that information gathered during Tuesday’s door-to-door canvas is in the process of being reviewed and evaluated for any potential new information or leads.

More than 80 officers from several agencies including the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office, Papillion Police, Nebraska State Patrol, Council Bluffs Police, and more assisted the La Vista police department with door-knocking in the area close to Ryan Larsen’s home.

LVPD Chief Bob Lausten is calling this area “ground zero,” and said officers were instructed to stay in the area between 78th and 84th streets along Harrison Street, and in the neighborhoods surrounding the La Vista Keno, where Larsen is believed to have been caught on video on May 17, the day he went missing.

“The keno video shows a shot between KFC and the keno, there’s some light poles and a figure in dark clothing is dancing around, hiding behind a pole. We believe we see a cruiser drive by in the back and the figure moves to another pole in the parking lot and that’s about it, then it moves out after a minute,” Chief Lausten said Tuesday during a press conference.

The video has been sent to Quantico to be enhanced, but Lausten told 6 News that Ryan’s mother does believe it is him in the recording.

Lausten said leads are “few and far between,” and that the department is running out of workable information. But they remain hopeful that Ryan is still out there.

Monday marks 3 weeks since 11-year-old Ryan Larsen vanished in La Vista

“Leads have been few and far between,” he said.

He said three different cadaver dogs and all hit again on Saturday at Walnut Creek Lake.

"Over and over, and difficult searching it in. We had a dog back again, we're not going to go back every day with a dog because, if a cadaver hits or smell something there, it's always going to be there. So there's something in Walnut Creek, but again it's just such a pile," he said.

Lausten said of a reward, "we'll probably need to go down that road." But, he said, they have not formalized anything yet.

He said there is still nothing to suspect there is a criminal element to the investigation yet.

Asked when the investigation turns to recovery, Lausten said, "Again we’re two weeks out now, if Ryan is out there, I don’t know... it’s been two weeks."

"When it gets to the point where nobody's seen him. We have him on video roughly 1:40 in the afternoon Monday, May 17, and we don't see him after that. Nobody's seen him...I don't know what to say about that," he said.

Lausten said they are not dialing back search efforts yet.

I was afraid the dogs may have been cadaver dogs. With the comments about the dogs "hitting" but not being able to know for sure if it was Ryan. Tracking dogs track a particular person and they would know. Cadaver dogs just pick up on that scent of decomposition. :( Still, it may not be Ryan. I hope it's not.

I have yet to understand how they came to search seven miles away when per them, the only possible image of him was near his apartment on the day he disappeared.

Tuesday marked 12th birthday of La Vista boy missing for 22 days

Tuesday marked Ryan Larsen’s 12th birthday and the 22nd day since his disappearance.

Tuesday, La Vista Police Chief Bob Lausten said efforts have turned to obtaining surveillance video from area businesses, a process made more difficult by several businesses that have declined to voluntarily turn over footage.

“Some key places we’re trying to get video from voluntarily we’ve had to go through a subpoena route and it’s delayed us in a couple key areas,” Lausten said.

Investigators have also started interviewing registered sex offenders near Ryan’s home.

“We haven’t ruled anything out about what happened to Ryan or where he’s at,” Lausten said. “He could be a walk away, he could have been abducted, it could have been with a familiar person, we just don’t know.”

But someone, somewhere knows something, Lausten said, and “it’s troubling” that more eyewitnesses haven’t come forward.

“There is no strong evidence of an abduction. At this point I just find it hard to see him wandering away and getting stuck somewhere,” said Lausten, who in the beginning was operating with the theory that Ryan had run away, something the boy has done before, and possibly gotten stuck somewhere.

Probably just trying to help but he did go missing from school and no one saw/stopped him despite he was known to take off at times? And no cameras.

I think I have said it before but there is just something that seems "off" in this case. Or as if there is something we don't know. Not just the typical things but something more. Maybe I am wrong but no matter, any which way one looks at it, this child has been missing for over three weeks and regardless, that does not give a whole lot of hope for a good outcome.

ETA: I replied to the wrong post. My post here was in regard to the woman they were seeking who works for the school district.

Why are they declining to turn over footage? Are they violating some Covid law or something? That’s not what the police are looking for. Just turn it over and let them see if there’s any evidence there! A boy is missing!!!!!!

Maddening isn't it? Probably corporate rule, liability concerns or some such.

This case bothers me. There is allegedly one video which they even say is not clear enough to KNOW it is him, etc. I can't help but think he allegedly left school but with no cameras do they know he did for a fact? Alone? Of his own free will? And if he did, why no videos or even PEOPLE sightings if he was walking here or there or everywhere? And of course searching 7 miles away for no reason they have been able to tell us at least...

i've noticed that in many of his pics he has a compass and or binoculars, like he was very familiar and comfortable being outdoors. Are these things missing? I sure hope he just got himself in over his head instead of somebody doing something with him.
