Giles County authorities say Nancy Fridley ‘may have been casing other places’ prior to Noah Trout’s abduction

Not only did Nancy Fridley — the woman arrested for abduction and child endangerment — visit two other Giles County churches the same day 2-year-old Noah Trout was abducted, but authorities believe she has been casing other places around the region to commit similar acts.

The sheriff’s office shared some new details with WFXR News on Wednesday in hopes of inspiring more witnesses to come forward.

First of all, authorities say Fridley visited New Valley Fellowship Church and Mountain View Ministries — both in Narrows — on Sunday morning before Trout’s abduction. In addition, Fridley was in the area of both churches about a month before the abduction.

According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation indicates this was a “stranger abduction,” which means Fridley chose Trout at random. There is no credible connection between Fridley and Trout or any of his family members.

At this point, officials say there is no indication Fridley intended to give Trout to anyone in particular.

“We have evidence, through our collaboration with other agencies and jurisdictions, that Fridley may have been casing other places outside of Giles County to commit similar acts,” the Giles County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement to WFXR News. “We think there are other potential witnesses out there who could and should come forward. We urge you to contact your local law enforcement agency if you’ve had any contact with the woman or the vehicle listed in the photographs.”

This is strange for a stranger abduction, churches? I don't see how she got him to follow her at a distance if he did not know her, I mean I guess there are possibly ways but it still seems a bit odd. An almost 3 year old is not necessarily going to be behind you and not get distracted and she seemed to feel he would or was following her, per the picture anyhow.

With churches, she had to walk in (risky), would have to find the child care area, etc., and leave without notice. If she did not know the child, she could not go in and say I'm here to take Noah (wouldn't know his name) or even be able to act as if she knew him. I'd sure like to know the story of how she did this and where the child care workers were.

"Let's go find your mommy" seems like a pretty easy way to get a toddler to go with you. Especially in a church daycare where they likely have several volunteers, new people all the time, different members doing lessons or activities, etc. Obviously still a bit risky but as he's only following her, she has easy deniability if someone says anything. "Oh! How silly! I didn't realize he was following me!"

i was thinking the same thing about plausible deniability with that pic and her being quite a ways ahead of him. She's not leading him by the hand or carrying him out. I can also see that being how she approached him, too.

Still floored that it was even able to happen though. Letting a total stranger just walk right in and allow a toddler to follow them out without a hesitation.

He was probably investigated as a result of Noah's abduction...

Former church leader faces child pornography charges

A former Giles County church leader is facing multiple child pornography charges.

Justin Graves was a youth leader at Riverview Baptist Church. That’s the same church from which 2-year-old Noah Trout was abducted Sunday.

Court documents say Graves had been asking for inappropriate photos from minors, in-person and online.

Graves is being held in jail without bond.

I think forget securing just the child care area, I think I would quit attending this church, too bad for anyone good with the church but I wouldn't take the chance. And then he is the youth leader as well. These types sure find their "jobs" to place them where they want to be... We still don't know what the woman and man intended to do with Noah, were they to keep him, were they bringing him to someone else... Clearly the shaving of the head was to disguise him. All of it and now this youth leader is downright scary and disturbing. Imo.

Our church Makes people take a background check which includes fingerprints at the sheriffs office before you can teaching Sunday school. I know because I did it when I used to help in that way. Also, the person who brings the child gets a number and they have to wear it on their wrist and they can’t pick up the child without that number. As a helper, it was my job to check the numbers and make sure the children went to the person who brought them to Sunday school. And I was very strict about it. We all are.

I was at an event at our church last night and shared this case with the members there. Just wanna make sure everybody stays on top of their game. The pastor said we are to take it very seriously.

That's great and I hope most churches and other places as well do things like that.

I wonder with the youth leader, was this something they just became aware of or was he asking children for pictures etc. prior? Did no one tell or was nothing done? I would want some answers before I attended that church again without a doubt. The church may be innocent in it all but a child did disappear and now they have a leader accused of child porn. Two things in one church.... I think I would err on the side of caution.

Pedophiles often get jobs at schools, churches, youth sports, etc. That's why all youth organizations need to be on high alert!

The couple recently was notified that Nancy Fridley — the accused abductor of Giles County two-year-old Noah Trout — had been in their neighborhood back in March, potentially scoping out the area prior to entering their church doors Sunday.

“(She) sat down for like seconds and get up and leave. Asked for the bathroom,” Bill shared.

The Riddles tell WFXR News Fridley was only in their church, New Valley Fellowship, for a short amount of time, but she claimed to be looking for someone named “Mikey”.

background checks only find the ones that have been caught prior.

Woman charged with abducting 2-year-old Giles County boy gave police fake tips, authorities say

The woman authorities say abducted a 2-year-old boy in Giles County had bought sippy cups, a bed and children’s clothing prior to the abduction, according to authorities. That’s just one new piece of information learned during her hearing on Thursday.

While we previously knew that authorities believed she scoped out other churches in the area, during Thursday’s hearing authorities said that she gave a false name at the churches and claimed at each church that she was there to pick up a child.

As authorities searched for the boy, she actively provided fake tips to them in an attempt to throw them off her track, according to law enforcement.

Authorities also stated that within 24 hours of taking the boy, she was telling her boyfriend and her neighbors that his name was “Bobby Jr.”

Giles County Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Lilly Jr. argued that if granted bond she would pose a risk to children everywhere.

The judge chose to deny her request for bond.

Prior to her preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for August 16, the judge ordered a competency evaluation for Fridley.

Fridley’s preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 16.

Hmm. Apparently if she scoped out other churches, this woman did not know the boy and I do have to wonder how she got him to follow her.

A competency evaluation is understandable but she did show consciousness of right and wrong--she apparently planned this as she went to various churches, she knew enough to give a false name, she shaved the child's head I imagine so he wouldn't be easily recognized...
