Family searching for answers after mother of 5 goes missing in Greensboro

A family is worried about a mother of five who went missing after attending a nightclub in Greensboro.

Police said 25-year-old Marissa Carmichael was reported missing on Sunday, Jan. 14.

Family members said she left a club with someone and ended up at the Exxon on E. Market Street. At some point, the family said she got into an argument with the person, so she called 911 saying she'd been robbed. They said she eventually got into a car with someone else and hasn't been seen since.

Sara Carmichael said she's looking for all the help she can get to bring her daughter home.

"We need more help because she is out there somewhere," she added.

Her mom said she's a mother and her kids need her, all of them are under the age of 10 years old.

Desperate for answers, Sara Carmichael would like to know what happened even if it's not what she wants to hear.

"We’re looking for you. Just contact us. Just contact us. Contact the police. Contact somebody, so many people are looking for you. We love you and we miss you," Sara Carmichael added.

Missing North Carolina mother of 5 made distressed 911 call before vanishing

Police are searching for a missing North Carolina mother of five who made a distressed 911 call before vanishing, the Greensboro Police Department said on Monday.

Marissa Carmichael, 25, was last seen on Jan. 14 at an Exxon gas station wearing a white Tweety Bird T-shirt, blue jeans and yellow sneakers, police said on a missing persons flyer.

Carmichael called 911 around 3:45 a.m. the day she disappeared.

Carmichael stated “she is stranded and a male has her purse/phone, and she has no way to get anywhere and doesn’t know where she is,” according to the 911 record of the call obtained by NBC News.

When the Greensboro police responded to the scene around 40 minutes later, the store clerk claimed Carmichael “had gotten a ride from another customer.”

Officers visited One17 SofaBar and Lounge later that afternoon as part of the investigation. The bar, located less than a mile from the Exxon station, was the last place Carmichael’s friends saw her, according to another 911 record.

The investigation at the bar uncovered new information. Carmichael’s “friend called her mother at 5 a.m. saying there was an emergency, and then the line disconnected,” the 911 record states. Carmichael could not be reached, but a male kept answering and “saying she went to the store.”

Carmichael’s family is circulating pictures and missing persons flyers on social media in hopes of bringing her home safely.

"This is insane. Where is my sister?? She would never ever do something like this and if you know her, you know she wouldn’t," Emma Villegas, Marissa's sister, wrote on Facebook. "She needs to be found SAFE n SOUND NOW!"

Somewhat unclear. It is unclear if who she left the club with was known to her or unknown, at first I thought a stranger but then realized they didn't say and it well could be a bf and even who she went with, etc. If they got into an argument, I'd have a slight leaning it was someone she knew or her bf. If he took her phone and purse, she must have called 911 from the Exxon landline or the clerk's phone or something?

40 minutes seems like a very long time for LE to respond but I suppose someone not hurt may not have been a priority call??

Is it possible the male she'd argued with came back and she left with him and he was angry with her still when he left with her? Did the clerk witness the other customer or just knew she left with someone? If a stranger, did that customer make a purchase, I'd think they'd have a name possibly then. And what about camera footage of all? It would seem to be the male who took her pone who keeps answering saying she's at the store.

This part makes no sense at all. I think maybe the reporter put things together that don't belong together.

The investigation at the bar uncovered new information. Carmichael’s “friend called her mother at 5 a.m. saying there was an emergency, and then the line disconnected,” the 911 record states. Carmichael could not be reached, but a male kept answering and “saying she went to the store.”

I fail to see how the following sentences can relate to new information uncovered at the bar. I think they should have said that and then started a new paragraph?

Was the bar open at 5 a.m.? Are they talking of the same friend who has the phone, he called her at 5 because either 1) he had her purse and phone, she hadn't come home and he was worried; or 2) he did something to her and this is a cover. In the same breath they say a male kept answering claiming she went to the store so I am thinking all of it, everything is the same friend/male. If so, they certainly make it cryptic and blurred though.

The only likely possible stranger here is the person who gave her a ride and I'm not convinced of that either...

Of course I could be wrong, the person she left the bar with was one man, the 5 a.m. friend calling mom was another friend, and she left the gas station with a stranger, etc. The 5 a.m. call makes no sense unless it is the man with the phone and purse imo. And I'm thinking that is a bf.

Praying she's found safe.

I guess it does say she eventually got in a car with someone "else" meaning I guess other than that man but the details are so unclear I'm not convinced... If she did had she called someone else, was it someone she knew, and could she be missing voluntarily from that point on, ticked at the man she argued with so staying away.

Oh I guess not, I just now noticed this was on January 14th?? More than two weeks ago??!! And this is all they've released? No gas station footage or further info??

25-year-old mother Marissa Carmichael made that 911 call at this Exon on East Market Street where she was dropped off after visiting the One 17 Club Lounge and an Air BNB for an after party. Officers have trouble getting her to tell them where she is.

” You just told me you were at an Exon," said the 911 operator. "Yes, but in order for me to get back home I don't have any of my contacts,” said Marissa Carmichael.

Her mother Sara Carmichael says she thinks she was drugged.

“That wasn't alcohol, um, that was something else I believe something was slipped to her at the club,” said Sara Carmichael.

She also tells the operator that the person who gave her a ride took off with her stuff in the car.

“I just got all my stuff throughout the car, he took off with my phone, I have no clue where I'm at,” said Marissa Carmichael.

Her mother believes the person who let her use their phone to call her family after the 911 call may be connected to her disappearance. She says police are still on the search and the family will be holding a march and search group on Saturday for Carmichael.

So she called her family after LE?

Sounds like it? But it also sounds like she told 911 that she didn’t know any of her contacts in her phone to call them?
Yeah this one has some confusing or conflicting details.

Also since someone was answering her phone and saying she went to the store or whatever, I imagine that person has been located and talked to? Because if her phone was active cops could locate...

Lot of odd things that don't match up or make sense imo...

Family still searching for Marissa Carmichael; missing Greensboro mother of 5

A mother is desperately searching for her daughter.

“It still just doesn’t seem real and then there is moments that it is too real.” SARA CARMICHAEL, MARISSA’S MOM.

25-year-old Marissa Carmichael was last seen three weeks ago in Greensboro at the Exxon on East Market Street.

On Saturday, her family and friends gathered in that area, with a hope to bring her home.

At least a dozen people outside wearing orange, Marissa’s favorite color, showing her picture and handing out flyers in the neighborhood where she was last seen.

“I think she trusted the wrong person or it was something was set up to happen.” SARA CARMICHAEL, MARISSA’S MOM

Marissa’s family told Greensboro police, that she went to the gas station after leaving a nightclub, while at Exxon, she called 911 and told dispatchers she was robbed. Since then, no word from the mother of five.

“They have never, not ever seen their mom and the first week or so, we were saying she is out of town, she is working, tried to keep them occupied,” Sara said. “Their mom is ever present in their lives so this is just not, it’s hard to know what to say to them or hold my composure.”

They say this is not normal for the 25-year-old, even if she was overwhelmed.

“When people say maybe she got away and took a break, her getting away and taking a break is calling out of work for a few days, laying on the couch, ignoring her phone, watching movies, cooking and eating that is her, when she gets away she gets away from the world not home.”

Three weeks after her disappearance, they hold onto hope, that she will come home.

“I know you are fighting to get here Marissa, I know you definitely want to come home and we are searching 24/7, we are not going to stop searching until you are found.” EMMA VILLEGAS, MARISSA’S SISTER

So this makes no mention of her calling family after LE which was said above or seemed to be the case. Now it is no word from her at all since she called 911 and said she was wrong. We have seen many times where news doesn't match up with other news in the beginning or something or they rush with stories and get things wrong but this is odd. She either DID call family after LE or she didn't.

I've thought of the voluntary but faked taking a break thing as well. Not so sure here though...

I lean towards a set up more so or guy she argued with who took her stuff went back or more likely sent someone to seem like a good samaritan or someone she knew that she'd get in a car with... And that takes me back to then guy she argued with did this...

Hope I'm wrong and honestly I have thought of the taking the break thing and having to manufacture a story to get one or not have to go home that night....

Not sure and the "facts" are pretty contradictory in some cases but when I realized she has been gone for now weeks, I lean towards my first instinct and that's the guy who took her stuff and she argued wtih, whether a bf or ex or someone she just met that night, I think that's where the answer lies. I hope I'm wrong though and that this is lke a Carlee Russell thing, even though I despise such, did she manufacture a false story to get a break or get attention?

The thing missing here and to be sure, figure LE knows the answer and likely the family does too is who was this guy? Was she out with a bf, an ex, a date, a father of a child? Or did she leave with a random stranger who she argued wiith and took her phone and purse, etc.? I bet money this answer is known and if we knew that, then it would all make more sense. Jmo.

Marissa Carmichael still missing weeks later, family desperate for answers

Search efforts are increasing to find a missing High Point mother of five.

Twenty-five-year-old Marissa Carmichael has been missing since Jan. 14.

We now have surveillance video from where she was last seen that night in Greensboro as her family is still desperate for answers.

Marissa Carmichael's mother and sister said they're still left with many unanswered questions.

It's been just over three weeks since she went missing. Greensboro police said she was last seen at an Exxon gas station on East Market Street. Video from across the street at United Institutional Baptist Church showed that the gas station was very busy around 3:40 a.m. when Carmichael called 911 for help.

"He told me to come into the store and took off on me. I don't know where I'm at and he took my phone my phone," Marissa Carmichael said in a 911 call on Jan. 14.

However, Marissa Carmichael didn't return home after going out for a night of fun. Her family believes she was robbed, and left the Exxon with someone else. Her family said Carmichael wanted to get her own place and create a better life for her five kids who are all under the age of 9.

"She was going to get a new house; her own house finally, and she was going to have an extra room for me there and Emma," her mother Sara Carmichael shared, "They are not handling this well. They're not doing well with this. This is why we need to get Marissa back."

Greensboro police have not told us if there was a suspect identified, but they said they are concerned for Marissa Carmichael's well-being.

instead of geting clearer it gets stranger imo.

The Exxon was BUSY at 3:40 a.m.? Hmmm. Must be reasons is my first thought... I must live in a different area and world as I can't imagine any gas station/convenience store being "busy" for any reason at that hour except for bad reasons...

Not judging but she is 25 and has five children under the age of 9 and is the man that stranded her their father and a bf? Still not clear on that alone.

A new home with a room for her mother and Emma? Who is Emma? One of the five children?

This is so fuzzed as to facts. Was he maybe living with a man who was father of four but was going to leave him and get a house so her mom and one child could actually be there and have a room too?

Or was she going to get a new house, was in one of her own on her own that was smaller or at her mom's but now was going to get a big new house with room for all?

I don't have a single real point other than none of this is clear at all in any way. Nada. Zilch. Zero.

Can't even get a hint of what it is. Left on own and made sh*t up. BF, hub or stranger that stranded her? Another stranger that "helped" she left with and he abducted her or killed her? Etc., etc., etc. Nowhere near even a drop of real information.

Took cops a LONG time to get to this Exxon so in the meantime she left with someone else/found a ride. Maybe cops don't want to respond to an Exxon that is soooo very busy at 3 something in the morning....? Is there a constant problem at this Exxon...?

I mean I don't even know what I am talking of, it is just WTH?

Clearly there has to be sh*t here that would hint at a direction but it isn't being given.

Then there was that thing of she called family AFTER calling 911 which also was like huh?

'We need her home:' High Point mother of 5 missing almost one month

The search continues for a missing High Point mother of five, Marissa Carmichael, who was last seen in Greensboro.

It’s not clear how she got a phone to call 911. Greensboro police haven’t confirmed that information or where she went after making the call.

Carmichael's family believes she got a ride from someone and was taken somewhere. They say it’s not like her to not come home.

In the post, they say their detectives have conducted more than a dozen interviews and explored several leads, including a recent search of abandoned properties on Wednesday.

Sara says they just want her found and are pleading for anyone with information to come forward.

"We need her home. Her kids need her. You could be a hero in this situation. You could save somebody's life," Sara said.

Greensboro police interview witness tied to missing mother case

Wednesday, Feb. 14, marks one month since a High Point mother of five vanished after a night out in Greensboro.

In the 911 call, Marissa Carmichael said, "He told me to come into the store and took off on me. I don't know where I'm at and he took my phone."

In a surveillance video obtained by officers, Marissa Carmichael was seen getting into a vehicle and leaving the gas station. Investigators with the Greensboro Police Department said they have since interviewed a witness tied to this case — the driver of that vehicle.

Marissa Michael's mother, Sara Carmichael said each day it becomes harder to understand how her daughter is still missing.

"It just still doesn't seem real and there are moments that it is too real," she said.

Marissa Carmichael isn't just a mother of five, she's a daughter, a sister, and a friend. Her family said she hasn't been seen or heard from since.

Sara Carmichael said February 14th is difficult for the family, but the search wont stop.

"We have to keep her name, and her face out there. I can't move on with my life. I'm at a standstill, I'm frozen and I can't live normal. I can't enjoy anything. On my mind 24/7 is what's the next step? What can I do? Who else can I get involved to find her," she said.

Greensboro police release new information about investigation into missing mother of five

Greensboro police said detectives have interviewed a witness in a missing persons case.

On Tuesday, police also released a timeline laying out the morning Carmichael was last heard from:
  • 3:40 a.m. Carmichael contacted Guilford Metro 911 from the Exxon and told a dispatcher that a man took her phone and left her there
  • 4:19 a.m. Guilford Metro dispatched the police department for a welfare check on Carmichael at the Exxon
  • 4:21 a.m. An officer arrived and discovered Carmichael had left the immediate area
Police said surveillance video shows Carmichael getting into a vehicle and leaving the Exxon.

Police did not say what time she left the gas station.

According to police, detectives identified and interviewed the person who was driving the vehicle Carmichael left the gas station in.

Police have not publicly identified the driver but said that person is considered a witness in this case.

Is missing mom Marissa Carmichael a victim of trafficking?

A young mother of five disappeared after a night out with friends. Now, Marissa Carmichael’s mother fears her daughter is a victim of sex trafficking.

Her mother believes it was part of a setup to leave Marissa stranded and vulnerable.

Her mother said Marissa tried to call her two more times that night, from someone else’s phone. She’s turned that number over to police.

“I think when she was reaching out and calling, she was figuring out, okay he’s really maybe not bringing me home at this point,” Sara said. “I think she was starting to get a feeling.”

Friends and family are working to keep attention on the case.

“It’s exhausting, it really is, it’s tiring. We just want her home, we miss her,” said friend Aerial Lipford.

Marissa’s loved ones gathered in orange t-shirts, Marissa’s favorite color, vowing to keep attention on her case.

Sara is frustrated, wondering how police don’t have any information on the person who took her daughter even with all the cameras around the Exxon.

“Amazing how he just showed up at the Exxon as soon as she had been dumped out by the other guy,” Sara said.

She said she’s done her own investigation and believes the man Marissa left the gas station with may be involved in sex trafficking and that her daughter may still be nearby and alive.

Sara hopes someone will spot Marissa’s distinctive tattoos and make a call to authorities, returning the young mother of five to her family.

Until then, Sara has a message for her daughter.

“I’m not giving up. I’m working every day, we’re looking for you,” she said. “We’re trying to find you. We’re not giving up.”

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — An alarming number of people have been reported missing in our state just this year.

One of them 25-year-old Marissa Carmichael, a triad mother of five who disappeared in January.

We starting digging deeper into missing persons cases.

Greensboro police clarify that you don't have to wait to report when a loved one disappears.

What the heck is a triad mother of five? I figured it would mean three and it does but this is of five. New term and usage now popular who can keep up?

However when I looked it up even though pretty sure what it meant there is something also about organized crime:

Anyhow what the heck is it supposed to mean with Marissa? She had five kids that involve three people or something?
