This statement makes me a bit worried... I hope Royer and her boyfriend are just absconding and still have Khaleesi as safe as she can be in their care.

According to Arey, friends told her that Royer had placed Khaleesi in the care of the child’s aunt, who lives in Covington, or possibly in the care of her maternal grandmother. However, this apparently did not happen.

Candi Royer, 41, has been missing since Aug. 24. According to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, she was last in communication with her family that day around 4:06 p.m., and has not had communication with her family since, which is out of character for her.

Days before her disappearance, she reportedly had filed for a protective order against her ex-boyfriend, Travis Brown, 29, who is wanted in relation to multiple felonies for vehicle thefts, breaking and entering, in Albemarle County.

More Information Released Regarding Missing 3-Year-Old

On Sept. 4, Amanda Arey, mother of missing 3-year-old Khaleesi Hope Cuthriell and noted by the Sheriff’s office as an inmate at Middle River Regional Jail in Staunton, reported to an officer at the jail that she placed her daughter in the care of Candi Jo Royer of Waynesboro in October 2020. Arey indicated that she worked with Social Services to establish a written diversionary agreement. That same month, family members of Royer reported witnessing seeing Khaleesi in Royer’s care.

Arey then said that she was told by friends that Royer placed Khaleesi in the care of the child’s aunt, who lives in Covington. It was also reported that Royer may have placed the child in the care of her maternal grandmother.

Friends and family members of Royer reported the same information to investigators. While it was initially reported that Khaleesi had not been seen since February 2021, investigators determined this not to be true. The girl’s whereabouts remain unknown and she considered a missing person.

Royer is also considered a missing person but believed to be with her boyfriend, a fugitive named Travis Brown, a resident of Waynesboro. He is currently wanted on the following charges:
  • Strangulation (Augusta)
  • Unauthorized use of a vehicle (Staunton)
  • Alter or deface serial numbers (Augusta)
  • Felony eluding (x2) (Louisa)
  • Grand Larceny (x2) (Albemarle)
  • Breaking & Entering (Albemarle)
  • Carjacking (Albemarle)
  • Trespassing (Albemarle)
  • Destruction of property (Albemarle)
  • Petit Larceny (Albemarle)
  • Assault & Battery (Albemarle)
  • Contempt of Court (Augusta)
  • Breaking and Entering (Charlottesville)
Anyone who has information regarding the whereabouts of Khaleesi Cuthriell, Candi Royer or Travis Brown is asked to contact Investigator Reid at the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 245-5333.

KHALEESI WAS LAST KNOWN TO BE IN THE COMPANY OF CANDI JO ROYER, WHO HAS CUSTODY OF THE JUVENILE. CANDI JO IS ALSO CURRENTLY LISTED AS A MISSING ADULT.

Two people arrested in Pennsylvania in connection with disappearance of 3-year-old Khaleesi Cuthriell from Augusta County

Authorities say two people are now in custody in Pennsylvania in connection with the disappearance of three-year-old Khaleesi Cuthriell, who was last seen in February in Augusta County.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office says members of the Pennsylvania State Police and the United States Marshall’s Service helped track down Travis Ryan Brown and Candi Joe Royer to an inn in the Borough of South Greensburg, Pa., which is near Pittsburgh.

According to authorities, the two were located at the Knights Inn at 1215 South Main Street on Sunday, Sept. 12. The two were then arrested without incident.

Then, on Monday, Sept. 12, the sheriff’s office announced that Augusta County investigators obtained additional charges against both Royer and Brown, which means they are each facing a single felony count of abuse and neglect of children.

However, authorities are still looking for Cuthriell.

Investigators Seek Answers From Fugitives Captured In South Greensburg In 3-Year-Old Girl’s Disappearance

Two fugitives from Virginia are in the Westmoreland County Jail after federal agents captured them in a South Greensburg hotel room.

U.S. Marshals say they found Travis R. Brown and Candi Jo Royer and suspected meth. Investigators say they also want to talk to the two about a missing 3-year-old girl.

Brown and Royer face serious drug charges but officials in Virginia want answers as to what’s happened to 3-year-old Khaleesi Cuthriell.

Marshals raided a hotel room at the Knight’s Inn in South Greensburg. According to court documents, they had to break into where Brown and Royer were staying after the two refused to open the door.

Once inside they found 29-year-old Brown and 31-year-old Royer as well as what officials describe as multiple checks allegedly stolen in Virginia and “two large rocks of methamphetamine.”

Marshals along with state police say they were hoping to find 3-year-old Khaleesi Cuthriell.

In prison in Virginia, the child’s mother allegedly placed the little girl in Royer’s care in 2020. Cuthriell was the last seen alive in February of this year. Members of the Augusta County Virginia Sheriff’s Department arrived in Hempfield Township to question the pair regarding the welfare of the child.

“The number one question is, ‘I wanna know where this child is.’ My office and me are dedicated to finding where this child is and we are working non-stop to find out where this child is, is she OK, and bring a logical conclusion to this. It’s heartwrenching,” said Augusta County Sheriff Don Smith.

Search for three-year-old Augusta County girl continues

Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith says the child’s whereabouts have been unknown since February, which makes the search harder.

“We’re behind the 8-ball on this,” Smith said.

However, he says the search for Khaleesi is fierce.

“It’s growing by the day. It’s becoming a joint investigation between the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, and I called in the FBI as well,” Smith said.

Since Khaleesi wasn’t seen with Royer and Brown in Pennsylvania, they’re working in the Augusta County area.

“We’re canvassing the people that know Travis Brown and Candi Royer, talking to friends and family, talking to all of them trying to piece together when’s the last time this child was seen,” Smith said.

Smith says they have information to sift through, and they’re trying to narrow down a timeline.

“We have numerous things that we’re tracking down right now, numerous people of interest that we’re trying to track down, family members that we’re trying to talk to,” Smith said.

Now that Brown and Royer are in custody, he says they hope to get information from them.

“We are trying to do everything we can to harvest the information that they have,” Smith said.

Many community members wonder how a child would be missing from February until September without anyone filing a report, and Smith says they didn’t know about the girl until Royer was reported as missing.

“The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office filed a missing person report for Candi Royer on Sept. 3 of this year. This report led to Amanda Arey, the biological mother, to call in and question her daughter’s whereabouts,” he said.

So placed into the custody of a meth head by the mom that was going to jail for an extended time. Did this child have nobody in her life that could actually care for her? :sigh:
And it sounds like it wasn't just "Hey can you take care of my kid while I'm in jail." It sounds like it was an actual placement through social services. Who approved that?

What we know about a missing three-year-old girl out of Augusta County

The search for a three-year-old girl out of Augusta County, who has been unaccounted for since February, continues.

Smith said last week they were following up on information submitted to them about the child. Smith also said they were working to narrow down where Khaleesi could be.

Investigators said Royer and Brown will be extradited to Virginia.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office believes missing 3-year-old Khaleesi Cuthriell to be dead after conducting a search of a home in Augusta County.

The investigation has revealed Khaleesi Cuthriell died while in the care of Travis Brown and Candi Royer at 249 Cattle Scales Road.

Some friend.

Search for three-year-old devastates Valley community

The Augusta County community is still processing news from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday night.

Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith says three-year-old Khaleesi Cuthriell is presumed to be dead.

“We need to figure out what all went wrong and make sure this never happens again in our community,” Smith said.

“This was not the outcome that our community and Augusta County is used to. This is not the outcome that any of us were looking for,” Smith said.

Smith says their rescue mission has been turned into a recovery mission. He says they determined the girl had died after visiting Candi Royer and Travis Brown’s home earlier this week.

“We were executing a search warrant there because Travis Brown and Candi Royer were living at that residence. Khaleesi was staying there as well. That was the last known location where they were,” Smith said.

Smith says he’s not able to say what evidence made them draw that conclusion as the investigation as active and ongoing.

Investigators say Khaleesi’s mother has been in jail and placed her into care with Royer under a diversionary agreement with social services. WHSV reached out to social services, and they say they can’t discuss specifics because it could jeopardize the integrity of the investigation.

Virginia sheriff says case involving missing toddler, couple in local prison ‘extremely difficult’

In early September, a Waynesboro, Virginia woman named Candi Jo Royer was reported missing. Several days later so was 3-year-old Khaleesi Cathriell.

“This is by far one of the worst cases I’ve seen since I’ve been in law enforcement,” said August County, Virginia Sheriff Donald Smith.

“Normally when we get a missing child like this, we are an hour or two behind. This, we are months and months behind. It’s been extremely difficult,” Smith said.

Royer allegedly told friends the girl was back with family but when the sheriff learned that wasn’t true, deputies started looking for her. The US Marshals Service eventually tracked her and her boyfriend, Brown, to a motel in South Greensburg. Agents also found meth, a stolen car and stolen checks. The toddler was nowhere to be found.

“Currently, where we are in the investigation, investigators with three agencies are looking for the proper location to search for Khaleesi [Cuthriell’s] body,” Smith said.

Smith said this is now a recovery mission and they believe the girl died while in the couple’s care.

Brown, Royer to remain in Pennsylvania for now

Two people wanted in connection with the disappearance of an Augusta County toddler will remain in Pennsylvania for now.

According to TribLIVE, Travis Brown and Candi Royer will remain in custody at the Westmoreland County Prison until there is a resolution on charges they face there, including possession of a stolen car, forgery and drug offenses.

On Monday, the couple appeared in court, where they waived extradition to Virginia.

The two are accused of abuse and neglect of a child in Augusta County in connection with the disappearance of three-year-old Khaleesi Cuthriell, who was last seen in Royer's custody in February.

Prosecutors in Virginia said last week that they believe the child died while in the couple's care, but her remains have not yet been found.

Brown and Royer are expected to plead guilty to the Pennsylvania charges in November.

Additional charges are still being considered in Augusta County.

Investigators interviewing suspects in child abuse and neglect case

Officials say recovery efforts for a three-year-old out of Augusta County continues.

It’s been just over two weeks since Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith said they believe Khaleesi Cuthriell died while in the care of Candi Royer and Travis Brown.

Because it’s an open case, Smith says he can’t say too much about the search, at risk of compromising the investigation. He says they’re still trying to narrow down where Khaleesi is, and they’re working through digital records, like texts and social media posts, to aid in that process.

Smith says they’re trying to work with both suspects to find where Khaleesi is.

“They did waive extradition – they’re not fighting extradition, but Pennsylvania has them in custody there, but they’re not being as cooperative as we would like, when it comes to locating Khaleesi,” Smith said.

Smith says this case has been hard on everyone – the community and investigators.

“I wish they would just tell me, ‘Khaleesi’s here.’ They kinda look at us, they don’t give us the pinpoint information that we need,” he said.
