He was transferred to a youth shelter in Maryland Heights, MO but ran away in September 21, 1990 before his true identity could be established.

Johnny Lee Mills was an alias used by an unidentified teenage male that had been arrested in St. Louis in 1990 on suspicion of being a runaway. He ran away from the youth shelter before his identity could be confirmed. All information given by him, including his name, age and other details, turned out to be false and his true identity has never been discovered. He was also using the names Steve Johnson and Randi Smith.

Case
It's unknown what happened to him after leaving the shelter; due to the lifestyle he led, it was theorized he may have met with foul play and may even be one of the unidentified bodies across the country.

There were theories he fell victim to a serial killer focused on young male prostitutes, however this theory had been proven to be false, as there was no serial killer in the area at that time. There's also the possibility he is still alive and even may have reunited with his family or guardians.

His case is considered as closed by law enforcement.

He said his name was Johnny Lee Mills. He also used the aliases of Steve Johnson and Randi Smith. He ran away from the shelter before his identity could be confirmed. All the information he provided turned out to be false and his true identity was never established.

Originally, he was listed as a missing person under the name Johnny Lee Mills. After this name proved to be false, he was removed from NCIC in 2008. Subsequently, the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) closed his case.

There were theories regarding his being a victim of a serial killer who focused on young male prostitutes. It is claimed that there were several unidentified victims and two of them fit the description of "Johnny Lee Mills."

Recent discussions with the investigating agency indicate that this information regarding a serial killer is not correct as there was no serial killer of young boys in the area at the time "Johnny Lee Mills" appeared and disappeared. The case file has been lost, but it was recalled that "Johnny" was not forthcoming with information and indicated that he had been on his own for a long time and "worked" the truck stops.
