Missing Louisville man was kidnapped and is being held for ransom, police say

The Louisville Metro Police Department is seeking the public's help in locating a missing man who was last seen Tuesday on Crockett Drive in the Pleasure Ridge Park area.

Jermaine Sprewer, 25, is missing from the 6100 of Crockett Drive, and his family said "he hasn't been in contact and they fear for his safety," according to LMPD.

In a Thursday morning press conference, LMPD Sgt. Matt Kennington said police were notified Tuesday that Sprewer's family received several FaceTime calls from "assailants" and could see Sprewer "bound, with several guns pointed at him."

"During the calls, a large sum of money was demanded in exchange for his safe return," Kennington said. "The family has since not heard from the assailants."

Kennington did not provide the ransom amount or say whether the family paid it, and he said the FaceTime calls appeared to come from the number for Sprewer's phone.

Police said they believe that body is the victim of a recent kidnapping based on information they received at the scene and from family members, but said they can't confirm that with absolute certainty.

Jermaine Sprewer's aunt, Darlene Fuller, was at the scene Saturday.

"I believe one of his friends here has identified his body and that breaks my heart," Fuller said.

"To know him was to love him," Fuller said. "He had a heart of gold. We lost a good person."

Friends, family of kidnapping victim want answers, justice

Friends and family of a man who was kidnapped, and now believed dead, want answers.

It wasn't the outcome Jermaine Sprewer's family wanted.

An official identification from the corner's office has yet to be made.

Ashley, a friend of Sprewer's, lives in Louisville and did not want to reveal her full name out of fear for her own safety.

"I want whoever did this, whoever had a hand in this to serve justice, whatever that may be," she said. "I mean, until we know who did it and why, nobody is safe."

The question of "why" haunts those who knew Sprewer.
