✂️
Each year on Jan. 30, the Misheloff family, their friends, city leaders and everyday community members meet to remember Ilene and rekindle awareness about her abduction. The group walks the path 13-year-old Ilene took home from school on that fateful day in 1989.

A student at Wells Intermediate School (now called T.D. Wells Middle School), Ilene was excused early from her physical education class toward the end of the school day, receiving permission to walk home and change into her ice-skating clothes. Her key fob was later found near the entrance to John Mape Memorial Park, along the route she typically took home.

Ilene's whereabouts remain unknown.

Dublin Police Take Another Look At Ilene Misheloff Cold Case

The Dublin Police Department will re-examine the 1989 disappearance of 13-year-old Ilene Misheloff after a man was charged last week with the disappearance of an East Bay girl.

David Misch, 59, was charged with murder with special circumstances in the disappearance of 9-year-old Michaela Garecht in 1988, who disappeared outside of a Hayward market. He has been in prison since 1989 for a Hayward murder and is currently in Santa Rita Jail awaiting trial for a 1986 cold-case double homicide in Fremont. That cold case arrest led directly to Misch's trail in the hunt for Michaela's abductor, Hayward police chief Toney Chaplin said at a news conference last Monday.

Dublin police review Ilene's case any time officers hear of someone else being investigated for a similar crime, said Capt. Nate Schmidt in an email. Dublin officers will contact Hayward police, Fremont police and the Federal Bureau of Investigations to determine whether there are any links between the disappearances of Ilene and Michaela.

News Digest: Remembering Ilene Misheloff

This Saturday will mark the 32nd anniversary of the day Dublin teen Ilene Misheloff went missing while walking home from Wells Middle School.

Though her disappearance has remained unsolved since that fateful afternoon on Jan. 30, 1989, Dublin police recently probed any possible connection between Misheloff's case and the 1988 cold-case kidnapping and homicide of 9-year-old Hayward girl Michaela Garecht, which investigators believe was solved last month with charges being brought against previously convicted murderer David Emery Misch.

"At this time, we do not have any evidence linking David Misch to the disappearance of Ilene Misheloff, but Dublin Police will be working with Hayward PD, Fremont PD and the FBI to determine what evidence was collected and if any of that evidence can assist in the Misheloff investigation," Dublin police Capt. Nate Schmidt told the Weekly.

The annual Ilene Misheloff candlelight vigil and walk has been canceled for this year due to the pandemic, but Ilene's father Mike Misheloff and Dublin Police Chief Garrett Holmes are releasing a brief recorded statement for the anniversary this weekend, Schmidt said.

43 unsolved missing cases the FBI needs fresh leads on
Amid the disappearance of Gabby Petito that has captured the nation's attention, FBI officials say hundreds of thousands of people go missing every year. In May, the FBI conducted an internal audit and compiled a list of 43 unsolved cases of people under the age of 21 that the agency says need fresh leads. Some date back decades. Here's the list.

Ilene Beth Misheloff was 13 when she went missing from Dublin, California, on Jan. 30, 1989. More information and age-progressed photos here.

Ilene Misheloff Annual Candlelight Vigil Canceled, Search Goes On

For the second year in a row, the annual candlelight vigil and anniversary walk held on the anniversary of Dublin resident Ilene Misheloff's disappearance will be canceled.

But 33 years after the 13-year-old went missing near Wells Middle School, Dublin police say they remain committed to finding her.

"After 33 years, Dublin Police Services is steadfastly committed to finding Ilene. We continue to keep the family updated and follow-up on information that is pertinent to solving this case," Dublin police tweeted Tuesday.

Police are offering a $95,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

Dublin Mourns The 34th Anniversary Of Ilene Mischeloff's Disappearance

Monday marked the 34th anniversary of the disappearance of Ilene Misheloff, a 13-year-old girl abducted while walking home from Wells Middle School in 1989. She has never been found, and the case remains open.

For over 30 years on Jan. 30, the community held a candlelight vigil and walk to keep her memory alive and pressure police to continue investigating. The vigil was canceled indefinitely after Ilene’s mother Maddi - a pillar of the community who served on the Dublin San Ramon Services District Board of Directors, and helped organize the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Dublin Pride Week, among other activities - passed away in April 2020 following a two-year battle with bladder cancer.

Police are offering a $95,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
