Northfield PD continues search for 6-year-old girl after mother found dead

The Northfield Police Department is asking for the public's help finding a six-year-old girl after her mother was found dead in their home this weekend.

Police said they responded to a call around 11:50 a.m. Saturday at a residence in the 600 block of Maple Brook Ct and discovered Lisa Wade, 39, who died of an apparent suicide. Authorities believe Wade may have been involved in the disappearance of her 6-year-old daughter Elle Ragin before she took her own life.

Witnesses at the scene told FOX 9 there was a large group of people searching cornfields by the townhouses and flying drones overhead yesterday. Agents from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension were seen going in and out of the home Sunday morning. Sunday, the state police helicopter was also seen searching the area. Police say they have also used K-9 teams to search for Elle.

As of Sunday afternoon, Elle remains unaccounted for. Police are now asking for anyone who has seen or spoken with Elle or Lisa in the past two weeks to call the police department at (507) 645-4477. Police say two weeks ago was the last confirmed sighting of the mother.

"Just a darling little girl": Elle Ragin still missing as search continues

Northfield Police along with state investigators continue looking for missing six-year-old Elle Ragin.

She is about three feet six inches tall with curly brown hair and brown eyes.

Police found her mother's body Saturday morning inside their Northfield apartment. Investigators believe she died by suicide.

Investigators are attempting to piece together a timeline they hope can lead them to where Elle's mom, Lisa Wade, was in the past two weeks.

What they do know is no one had seen Elle or her mom since then and they believe the six-year-old could be in danger.

Police found the body of Elle Ragin's mother, Lisa Wade, inside her townhome after a relative called and requested a welfare check on the single mother.

What?? Northfield is a small city of about 20,000 in MN and considered a very good and safe place to live I believe. I guess this isn't necessarily a crime in as far as mom's death as they think it suicide...

So do they think she killed her child, trafficked her child, hid her child with someone on an ex or away from someone like CPS or an ex, etc.?

Is there any rumor mill going on with this one anywhere? Just seeing it right now first time.

Pics appear like a beautiful happy mom and child living in small city midwest America. So what went wrong...

I hope the little girl is found safe and soon. Not counting on it but it really doesn't say what they think happened to the child...

I hadn't heard about this. This is awful. Northfield isn't far. An hour ish.

Northfield police chief: Ongoing search for Elle Ragin is ‘a heartbreaking case’

The search for Elle Ragin, a missing six-year-old girl whose mother died by suicide in Northfield on Saturday, continued Tuesday afternoon.

"We are still extremely hopeful, but, based on the information and evidence that we have at this time, we are concerned that we may not be able to find her,” Chief Mark Elliot said during a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, Elliot shared new details about the information that led investigators to concentrate their search on the Mississippi River near Rice, Minnesota.

The Mississippi River County Park, where investigators began searching Saturday, remains closed while search teams conduct operations on the water.

On Sunday, the Northfield Police Department stated it has reason to believe Elle's mother, Lisa Wade, was involved in Elle's disappearance before taking her own life.

Police found Wade dead inside her home on Saturday after a family member requested a welfare check.

New details

According to Elliot, Elle was last seen on June 19.

Cell phone data revealed Wade drove to the park in rural Stearns County two days later. That day, around 3 p.m., Wade's cell phone turned off and never turned on again.

Again, on June 23, Wade visited the park.

That day, deputies interacted with Wade and helped her arrange for her vehicle to be towed after she told deputies she'd lost her phone and car keys while hiking.

Wade's family members tell law enforcement Wade seemed "distraught" during the following week, Elliot said. Additionally, surveillance footage captured Wade at various locations between June 23-July 2, but Elle is not seen with her, which law enforcement consider very unusual.

The mother and daughter were usually together and had "a very close relationship," Elliot said.

So far, the search of the Mississippi River County Park has turned up Elle's cell phone and Wade's cell phone and purse.

Elle's phone was found on land, Elliot said, and Wade's phone, purse and keys were found in the river.

There's no known connection between Wade and the Stearns County area, Elliot added.

“This is a very difficult investigation for everybody we have on this team," he said. “This is a heartbreaking case.”

Elle is 3'6'' and 45 pounds with brown curly hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is urged to call Northfield Police Department at 507-645-4477 or 911.

Police concerned missing Northfield girl may not be found alive

Authorities are searching the Mississippi River and a park near St. Cloud for a missing Northfield 6-year-old. The mother of Elle Ragin visited the park twice before she died by suicide and left a note saying the girl is dead.

“We are still extremely hopeful. But based on the information and the evidence that we have at this time, we are concerned that we may not be able to find Elle alive,” Northfield Police Chief Mark Elliott said at a press conference Tuesday.

Lisa Wade, 39, was found dead in her home on Maple Brook Court in Northfield Saturday morning after a relative requested a welfare check. Police believe she died by suicide.

A note was found at the residence that stated: “Elle is dead. I love you all. I am so sorry sorry sorry sorry,” according to a search warrant application.

Blood and hair were found in a garbage can in the garage, the court document states. A cadaver dog was alerted to a scent in a vehicle in the garage, according to the warrant application that sought and received a judge’s permission to review Wade’s cellphone records.

6-year-old Northfield girl still missing after 3-day search of Mississippi River County Park

A 6-year-old Northfield girl is still missing after a three-day search at a Stearns County park.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that after an extensive search of Mississippi River County Park, Elle Ragin is still missing.

"Items recovered at the park lead us to believe it possible that at one point Elle may have been at the park," the sheriff's department said.

More than 100 volunteers searched on foot along with several K-9 units, water patrols with side scan sonar, UAVs, the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter and the Stearns-Benton County Sheriff Dive Team.

Property owners asked to monitor river shorelines in ongoing search for Elle Ragin

Authorities investigating the disappearance of six-year-old Elle Ragin are now asking property owners to keep watch on their own Mississippi River shorelines.

While the sheriff's office said it'll continue to monitor the river area over the next few days, the Mississippi River County Park has reopened to the public after being closed during the search.

Where they are looking for the child in the park is not in their hometown area at all but about 100 miles at least away. So she alluded in a note that the child is dead. Hair and blood in a can in garage, not sure why searching at park then 100 miles away but must have some evidence pointing to that and the river. \

So sad. I'm assuming she is dead. :(

They're searching at the park because mom's phone pinged there twice in the days immediately after Elle was last seen. She was also seen in the park. Elle's deactivated/play cell phone was found in the park. Mom's purse and keys were found in the water there. I'd say they have pretty good evidence to search there.

I saw some of that and agree. Just wonder if was where last seen etc. and/or there is any connection to the area. That particular weekend would have been Father's Day. Am wondering what family members were involved in the child's life. There must be parents and grandparents I imagine, such a loss of both whatever it is that happened.

Have they ended it or there just isn't any news? I would hope they are still investigating and searching. It makes one wonder if people are even aware of it so not much news.

It might not sound like much but it sounds as if they shut the park down to search for three days. They also started at the residence, etc. in their hometown and seem to be following the evidence. My guess is we are just not hearing anything of what next or where and she didn't go missing recently either the way it sounds. They can't even be sure I wouldn't think that they are in the right town.

I can't fathom most women throwing away their purse and phone and then driving back home to kill themselves. Why not do it there? Could this have been a mixture of foul play and suicide? Why was she at the park I mean? And they say she has no known connections to the area.

I pray she is found. Alive hopefully.

I can think of a scenario or two where maybe. May be far fetched but hard to say... She could have placed the child with someone to avoid where the child would end up otherwise... Timothy Pitzens or something like that, isn't that the case that they aren't sure if he is dead or alive...

Yeah. What's going on Minnesota Investigators?. Throwing your purse away. I can't see that either. IMO Timothy Pitzen isn't alive. His mother killed him before herself and dumped him. I believe that he or the people who were said to have him would have come forward by now. And he would have had to attend school somewhere. Even home schooling there has to be a record. No trips to a doctor or dentist?. I think all of that nothing, Sadly tells it all.
