For nine women, more questions than answers

With disappearances dating back to 1994 and occurring across the region, that’s not an unusually high number compared to other areas, said Caison, who investigates people missing from around the country.
Though there are no clear connections between the disappearances, several relatives described their loved ones in a similar way.

The women were too trusting, relatives said. Virginia Witten said her younger sister Deloris Melton helped anyone who asked.

“You could walk all over her and she would forgive,” Witten said.

Melton was last seen at a bar in Brunswick County on April 15, 1994.
