One year later, no leads have identified 'Baby June,' found off Florida coast
June 2019

It’s been nearly one year since a newborn's body was found floating off the Florida coast, and detectives still have no leads that can direct them to her possible killer.

During a Friday morning press conference, Capt. Steve Strivelli with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said they have received a total of 22 tips in the "Baby June" case. However, none led to any answers about her identity or her parents.

He said detectives also combed through a list of 700 babies born in Broward and Palm Beach counties within a specific time frame.

“We still need assistance from the public,” he said during the press conference. “We are not currently receiving any additional tips.”

“It’s been difficult for us to really investigate without the information the parents that we need,” Capt. Strivelli said. “Nothing has panned out for us at this point.”

The child may have been of Caribbean descent. Strivelli said the agency has been in touch with the Bahamas but said it doesn’t appear they have any suspicious missing baby cases.

A drift study showed the baby’s body was in the water for a couple of days, possibly from Broward County. It’s unlikely the baby came from a boat carrying migrants, he said.

“But there is no guarantee.”

Baby June’s death was ruled a homicide, and the cause of death was suffocation, Capt. Strivelli said.

Detectives also believe the baby was born in a hospital since her umbilical cord was clipped and there was evidence of the heel prick test.

DNA tests, he said, are in a system that is always running. The agency will be notified of any connection that comes up for a relative.

“We hate seeing this stuff. We’re not getting lucky with this case,” Strivelli said. “We hope we still have a future with information to be given.”

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $10,000 reward for anything information leading to the baby’s identity, as well as her parents.

I hope they find who did this. This is horrible.

‘Baby June’ homicide remains unsolved two years after infant’s body found in ocean

It has been two years since an off-duty firefighter found the body of an infant floating in the ocean, and investigators are once again asking for the public’s help identifying “Baby June” in hopes of solving her death.

DNA from the unknown infant was submitted into a genealogical database that has been continually searching for possible relatives.

So far, tests have determined her DNA was a 50-50 mix of African and Asian descent, indicating her parents may have been from the Caribbean, authorities said.

Investigators from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office examined the birth records of more than 700 babies in Broward, Palm Beach, and Martin counties during the time period Baby June had likely been born, but came up with no definitive leads.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Special Victims Unit Detective Brian Hansen at 561-688-4167 or by email at Hansenb@pbso.org. Tips can also be submitted by downloading the PBSO app “Connect & Protect, See Something Say Something to your cellphone.

Anonymous tips can also be given to Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 800-458-8477 and online at crimestopperspbc.com.

Why have a child and then just kill it?. There's a thing called adoption. Murdering 🤬

Not really sure how birth records in these counties would result in anything. Why do they figure an infant disposed of would be born in a hospital there? And then the other article they checked with the Bahamas and they had no missing babies... I don't even pretend to understand that... First she was 4 to 7 days old and then older... Apparently a surgical cut of the umbilical cord hints at a hospital delivery. Maybe so... They also say it was probably not a migrant boat thing but it can't be ruled out... First it was she was in the water less than 24 hours then a drift study showed longer... And that she likely drifted from Broward...

As for adoption, I don't see it, as I guess you would have to be legal to begin with to attempt that... If the ones responsible were legal, then still, clearly someone had a need or want to get rid of a newborn and not face an adoption/legal process...

I had a great/even awesome weekend but am pretty fed up and disgusted with this this world in general.

Her ancestry doesn't mean she wasn't born here.
It doesn't mean she was only possibly born in the Bahamas either if checking elsewhere.' Why only the Bahamas? Unless of course LE etc. knows something we don't... Possible...

Three years have passed and still no closer to finding the identity of Baby June. I can't believe no one has come forward with information, if the child was born at a hospital or birth center there should be information out there.

"According to the sheriff's office, the baby has been confirmed to be neither Caucasian nor Asian, and may be of mixed race, black or Hispanic." (according to the second news link above)

Just wondering if the DNA Doe Project would possibly pick this case up? Or if they could have any luck finding a familial match for her.

Mystery solved: Arrest made in death of newborn whose body was found off Boynton Beach inlet (Need subscription)

(MSN reprrint of story)

Story by Shira Moolten, South Florida Sun-Sentinel • 1h ago

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday said it has made an arrest in the long-unsolved case of Baby June, the newborn whose body was found in the waters off Palm Beach County.

Officials say using newer technology, they figured out who the baby’s mother was, took the mom into custody at her home and arrested her on a first-degree murder charge.

The announcement of an arrest comes years after the child’s body was found on June 1, 2018. That’s when an off-duty Boynton Beach firefighter found the body while boating on the ocean side of the Boynton Beach Inlet.

PALM BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) – Four years after the body of an infant was found in the ocean off the coast of South Florida, an arrest has been made in connection with her death.

On Thursday afternoon, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office announced that the mother of “Baby June,” Arya Singh, 29, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Detective Christoffel stated that when she received this case, they had just got a lead generated from the crime lab about a potential father.

“We got the DNA from the father, he was very corporative, he knew nothing about the baby,” she said. “He knew that he had a girlfriend around that time that told him she had been pregnant but had taken care of it. He was thinking she had an abortion.”

After the DNA was tested, it was confirmed he was the father. This led police to a possible suspect as to the mother.

The detective stated that they were able to get Singh’s DNA from a piece of trash and confirmed she was the mother with a second sample.

Over the next several months, investigators began building their case and obtained search warrants for phone and GPS records.

“We learned that she was at the Boynton Beach Inlet on May 20, 2018, about 40 hours before we located this baby,” Christoffel said. “She searched local news for days and months after. She did see the first articles on June 1, around 5 p.m. and she never came forward after all this time.”

After interviewing Singh, several friends, and family members, it was determined that she was solely responsible for Baby June ending up in the Boynton Beach Inlet.

According to authorities, Baby June, born on May 30, 2018, was already deceased by time she reached the inlet.

Singh never named the infant.

Baby June was found when an off-duty Boynton Beach firefighter saw a body of a female infant while out boating near the Boynton Beach Inlet.

A medical examiner had ruled the case a homicide. It was determined that the baby was no more than 14 days old. She had a needle prick to her heel and her umbilical cord had been cut.

And dad just "assumed" she had an abortion. and apparently never asked further. Oh okay. Both free from responsibility. Awesome. Don't get me wrong, she clearly is responsible for the death.

Poor baby. Throw children in the garbage thrown them in the ocean unnamed, etc. Just an obstacle/problem I guess. Disgusting.
