62 inches tall, weight 103 lbs. Estimated age 14-25, probably not older than 19
light blondish-brown hair
eyes blue or hazel (eyes may have looked green under some lighting conditions)
pierced ears
right forearm had small tattoo of the letter "S"- tattoo was crude, not professionally done , blue ink. Tattoo was on the inside of her forearm
unique and sophisticated (for 1980) dental suture on at least one of her teeth
impacted wisdom teeth
wore silver nail polish
vaccination scar on left bicep
gap between two of her teeth as depicted in Carl's reconstruction below ( gap may have occurred after death)

Because of the condition of her teeth, investigators do not believe that this young woman was homeless. Her teeth had several fillings and the dental suture was unique for the times. They also believe she may have been travelling from California or Arizona to the Las Vegas area.

It is worth saying that on October 2, 1980 there was a heavyweight boxing match between Muhammed Ali and Larry Holmes in Las Vegas. The WBC boxing match was held at Caesar's Palace. The boxing match was heavily advertised worldwide, received tons of publicity, and marked Ali's return to the ring after an absence of a couple of years. Arroyo was found on October 5, 1980. The medical examiner estimated the time of death could have occurred up to 24 hours earlier, on October 4, 1980.

On October 5, 1980, the body of an unidentified white female was found just south of Route 146, west of Arroyo Grande in Henderson, Nevada. It is believed she had been deceased for less than 24 hours prior to the discovery of her body. She had light brownish-blonde shoulder-length hair and pierced ears. She had a small tattoo on her right forearm. The tattoo was blue, approximately ½” x ¼”, and appeared to be homemade. She was wearing silver colored fingernail polish and had a vaccination scar on her left bicep. She had a gap between two teeth on the upper right side of her mouth. The reconstruction featured above is an artist’s rendering of what the Jane Doe may have looked like. Anyone with information should contact the Clark County Coroner’s Office, reference case number 80-01221 or the Henderson Police Department, reference case number 80-3937.

Victim's tattoo
This tattoo could be a letter or it could be marking of some type. If a letter it could have various meanings. Its important for families who see this young lady to not preclude her as their loved one based solely on this image. The tattoo could have been added after this young lady went missing. (Henderson PD)

From the article:
We are also learning an "S" was roughly carved into her right forearm. It could have been a homemade tattoo representing someone's initial, showing branding or ownership.

"That could stand for a slave, possibly a victim of a motorcycle gang, or a serial killer," said Rebel J. Morris, the Executive Director of Can You Identify Me?

DDP has apparently taken on Arroyo's case. Praying she gets identified.
Where did you get that from? She's not listed as a case on their website or on their pinned Facebook post.

However, I do know Carl Koppelman mentioned in another forum that Barbara Rae-Venter confirmed she and her forensic genealogy group (not affiliated with the DDP) was working on AGJD alongside Valentine Sally.

You are right. I thought Barbara Rae-Venter was with DDP.

Arroyo Grande Jane Doe Jane Doe from 1980 has been identified as Tammy Corrine Terrell.

"The City of Henderson Police Department’s Investigative Division has identified the victim of their 1980 cold case homicide as 17-year-old Tammy Terrell.

On October 5th,1980, at approximately 9:00p.m., Tammy’s body was located by a passing motorist in the desert area near Arroyo Grande Boulevard and Lake Mead Parkway. Since the incident, Tammy had only been known as “Jane Arroyo Grande Doe”, as all attempts to identify her to this point had been unsuccessful. The Clark County Coroner’s Office had ruled her death a homicide.

On November 10, 2021, the City of Henderson Police Department’s Investigative Division received a positive identification confirmation, through the use of investigative genetic genealogy. Investigative genetic genealogy is the use of DNA testing to determine relationships between individuals and identify possible relatives of the unidentified victim. Detectives then contact these potential relatives in an attempt to identify family members that have gone missing.

Tammy was last seen at a restaurant in Roswell, New Mexico on the evening of September 28th, 1980, with an unidentified white male adult and white female adult; possibly planning to leave New Mexico for an unknown destination in California.

Due to the fact that this is still an open investigation, no additional details will be released at this time."
