IL ALEXIS SCOTT: Missing from Peoria, IL - 23 Sept 2017 - Age 20

Scott was last seen at a house party in the 100 block of Richmond Avenue in Peoria, Illinois sometime between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. on September 23, 2017. According to the person who invited Scott to the party, she left the house on multiple occasions, and she was in the backyard when he left. She last used her cellular phone at 5:08 a.m., and reportedly left the party on foot sometime after 5:30 a.m. She has never been heard from again.

According to her loved ones, just weeks before her disappearance, Scott traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada to be a stripper, but became the victim of sex trafficking and was taken to Sacramento, California. She escaped there and a woman found her naked and disoriented in the street. Scott was able to contact her mother and return to Peoria, but feared retaliation from her traffickers.

The owner of the home where the party was at knows the man Scott went to Las Vegas with, and her family fears she was trafficked again. She left behind a young son. She's considered endangered and her case remains unsolved.

Over the summer, TJ’s toy fire truck didn’t work for a while. The batteries had worn down or something was wrong.

But one day, the truck just started working. April Allen was kind of startled — but not TJ.

“He said, ‘Oh, Grandma, don’t worry. Mommy did that. She’s a ghost now.’ I was floored. I had to walk away and go cry,” said Allen, who this week is marking somber day, the two-year anniversary of when TJ’s mother, Alexis Scott, went missing.

It’s been two years since Scott was at a Sept. 23, 2017, party on Richmond Street. She arrived there at about 5 a.m., and that’s where the trail stops. Police say they have talked to the people who were at the house, executed search warrants, put her name into a national missing persons database and spent hundreds of hours on the case.

Just this past spring, her disappearance was the subject of nationally syndicated talk show. And members of a Facebook group dedicated to finding Alexis have done their own searches up and down the Illinois River in Fulton County, where some items were found that could be linked to the case, and in the city. They’ve also gone to City Council meetings to demand action.

The woman has become the face of missing persons here in Peoria, despite there being several others who are also in the same status. Yet, after two years, Allen says it’s time to look at things differently.

“I have to be truthful as I have been from the very beginning,” Allen said, her voice breaking. “Everything that the police have, and the information that we have turned over, and the information that the police have, it’s always been that she is deceased.”

That statement, as hard as it is for Allen say, is not surrendering. She’s just as determined to bring her daughter home or, at least, to bring the people she thinks are the killers to justice.

Calls from protesters continued in front of the Peoria Police station, Thursday night they were demanding officers get answers in unsolved cases.

Dozens gathered with signs asking for Peoria Police to do more for the victim's families of violent crimes.

Written on many homemade signs was the name Alexis Scott, the Peoria woman has been missing for almost three years.

The protest organizer says she and many others are frustrated they don't have more answers to Scott's case.

"The Peoria Police Department obviously does not treat black and brown people in the community the same way when it comes to violent crimes", said Dustri Moultrie.
"There has been so much information given personally in the Alexis Camry Scott campaign to the Peoria Police Department that, in the very beginning, they didn't even look into those things."

Alexis Scott was reported missing in September 2017. There have been no answers to what happened when she left a house party and no one was been arrested in connection.

Three years after disappearance, Alexis Scott’s family still searching for answers​

Vanished without a trace, but not forgotten; this past Tuesday marks three years since Alexis Scott went missing.

Sunday night, a group gathered to make sure the community doesn’t forget that she could still be out there and is hoping for some sort of closure.


“Today is the day I actually filed a police report on her missing status,” Allen said. “It took about four to five days to really hear back from her friends.”

The group of around 20 prayed, chanted for justice and is determined to find answers. Allen said the whole situation has been frustrating.

“People in the community share what they know and what has been shared with them and I have no way of knowing what’s true and what’s not,” Allen said.

Kristen Meierkord a Peoria local has been part of the Alexis Scott Campaign since the beginning. She said more people need to help search for the missing mother.

“The community as a whole has seemed to have brushed this off,” Meierkord said. “This is a great turnout, I’m very happy for this, but we literally have to beg and plead for people to come out and help us search.”

The group is calling for Peoria Police to devote more time to Alexis and other cold-cases the department has yet to solve. Meierkord said the department needs to establish a cold-case unit and said it’s frustrating police don’t do more.

“As crime escalates in our community, she just gets pushed further back and further back,” Meierkord said. “We’re not going let them forget about it. We’re going hold everybody accountable.”

April Allen said she has no whereabouts as to where her daughter would be and urges the community or anyone with any information to let her or the Peoria Police Department know of any new leads.

Three years later, the search continues for missing woman, Alexis Scott​

The search for a missing Peoria woman continued Sunday with volunteers taking a different approach.

Despite the rain on Sunday, volunteers with the Alexis Scott Campaign searched the fields near the former Detweiler Golf Course for any signs of the missing woman.

The group of around ten searched for clues in the disappearance of Scott who was just 20 years old when she went missing back in 2017. On Sept 22, 2017 Scott entered a home in Peoria and her family says she hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

Sunday, the group received help from law enforcement who kicked the search up a notch and explored the waters of the Illinois River. Director of the Fon Du Lac Park District Police Department Mike Johnson said in these situations he feels for the family.

“Our goal in any sort of situation like this is to bring closure to the families,” Johnson said.

Johnson said his department had two boats out on the water Sunday morning using both sonar and radar technology to search beneath the water. Johnson said this makes things easier if they find something.

It's been four years since Alexis Scott went missing at age 20, last seen briefly at a party in Peoria.

Since she vanished on Sept. 23, 2017, family, friends and an active Alexis Camry Scott Campaign Facebook page have kept Scott's name and face in the public eye.

This year's remembrance will not have a march or a vigil as in years past, said Scott's mother, April Allen. That's due to the recent violence at Peoria High School — a short walk from where Scott disappeared — and the desire to spare children more trauma by having a visible display.

This year, Scott is being featured in a portrait by a Chicago-based artist as part of an effort to highlight missing women in the state.

Vanished without a trace: Family still searching for leads in case of missing person Alexis Scott​

Thursday marks four years since Peoria woman Alexis Camry Scott vanished.

She was last seen at a party in Peoria on Richmond Avenue. Family spokesperson Dusti Moultrie said it is difficult to know that she still has not been found.

She said the family met with Peoria Police Monday, but they learned there are not many updates in the case.

“Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a lot,” said Moultrie. “I guess you can really call her a cold case. We don’t get tips like we used to, at all, really.”

Moultrie said the family wants closure and asks for people who might know something about the case to speak up.

“If you know anything if maybe your mind is clearer now, where maybe then it wasn’t, even if you heard it from somebody who heard it from somebody, there is nothing too small,” said Moultrie.

She said in 2021, friends and family are not planning a march. Alexis’ mother asked people to pray in her honor Thursday.

Community gathers for Alexis Day​

It has been five years since Peoria woman Alexis Camry Scott vanished without a trace, and on Saturday, community members held an event in her name.

Alexis Day was held at Laura Bradley Park. Every year on the anniversary of Scott’s disappearance, family and friends gather together to show their support for her mother April, and Scott’s son TJ.

The event included food, fellowship, and information on voter registration and domestic violence resources.

Family friend Sarah Martin said they do not want the community to forget about Scott. She said they need continuous support from the community to help keep the search and hope alive.

“When we do searches, we just need the community support because people don’t show up until it’s their own family or friend,” Martin said. “But we need help. Her mom and TJ deserve to know where she is.”

Martin said she will continue to help the family look for Scott until she is found. Peoria Police is also offering a $2,500 reward for information that will help in finding Scott.
