"I’m still hoping he doesn’t have anything to do with my sister’s disappearance,” Maricris said. “I still, in a way, want to believe his story, but it’s tough for the family to really believe him.”

The Drouaillets said that Chula Vista police have been keeping their family at arm’s length, rarely sharing any details about the investigation into Millete's disappearance. Most of the information they get comes from former Navy investigator and defense attorney Billy Little, who’s been working independently to find her.

Little told NBC7 that if Maya is found, he can “guarantee she won’t be alive.”

Maya Millete’s husband arrested as juvenile in 1997 ‘gang related’ stabbing​

Larry Millete, age 15 at the time, was booked into juvenile hall on assault charges.

SAN DIEGO — The husband of missing mother, Maya Millete, was arrested in a gang-related stabbing incident in 1997 when he was a juvenile, multiple sources told News 8.
Larry Millete was age 15 at the time of the incident, which occurred on the evening of April 30, 1997, in the San Diego neighborhood of Bay Terraces.

The 17-year-old victim of the attack suffered multiple stab wounds and was rushed to Mercy Hospital, where he eventually recovered.
“I have reason to believe that he [Larry] was in a gang,” said Billy Little Jr., an attorney working with Maya’s family to investigate the case.
“It's my understanding that this was a gang-related incident. There were multiple other people around,” said Little. “He was taken into custody as a juvenile.”
Now age 41, the stabbing victim appeared in court on Monday in San Diego County for a preliminary hearing, as part of an unrelated, attempted kidnapping case.
News 8 has been following the man's case but is not identifying him because he could be targeted by rival gang members, even though the stabbing happened 24 years ago.
“It was a long time ago and what you’re looking for is, who is this person? Who has he grown up to be? Has he learned from his past criminal conduct?” said Little, referring to Larry Millete.
Maya Millete, 39, went missing from her home in Chula Vista on Jan. 7. She is the mother of three children, ages 4, 9, and 11.
The Chula Vista Police Department is investigating Maya’s disappearance as a missing person case. No suspects have been named publicly.
At the time of the 1997 stabbing incident, the San Diego Police Department released details about the crime but did not name the juveniles involved.
Various news media outlets, including News 8, reported the stabbing.
“A 15-year-old is in jail after a confrontation between the group he was with and a 17-year-old in Paradise Hills. The 17-year-old was stabbed several times,” News 8 reported at the time.
The San Diego Union-Tribune also reported details of the incident:

The stabbing happened near a two-story McDonalds restaurant in the 6900 block of Paradise Valley Road. The Thrifty Drug Store no longer is in business at the location.
Juvenile court records in the case are sealed.
According to family members, following Larry Millete’s release from juvenile hall, he moved with his parents to Hawaii.
That's where Larry Millete met his future wife, Maya, in high school. They married as teenagers and Larry enlisted in the Navy.
Aside from two traffic tickets in Riverside County, Larry Millete apparently had no more run-ins with the law.
His wife went missing on Thursday, Jan. 7 of this year.

Loud bangs, sounding like gunshots, were recorded around 10 p.m. by a surveillance camera in the Millete neighborhood on the night Maya went missing.
The next day, Larry Millete left the home for approximately 12 hours, telling family members he drove to Solana Beach beach with his 4-year-old son in the family's black Lexus SUV with personalized plates, “MAYLANI.”

Most family and friends were present for the party at Fiesta Island Park, except Maya’s husband Larry and their three kids.

Poor kiddos. Can't even honor their mother's birthday. I do hope they're safe.

Chula Vista police issue search warrant at the home of missing woman Maya Millete​

CVPD spokesman Lt. Frank Giaime declined to disclose what prompted the new search of the woman’s residence in the 2400 block of Paseo Los Gatos, near Mount San Miguel Park in the eastern reaches of the South Bay city.

Nothing new today, just reminders and video of yesterday’s raid. But when I saw the dog tonight, it reminded me wondering if it was a cadaver dog. After all, if those were gun shots ........

‘It's Very Traumatic, My Heart Breaks for the Kids': Family Reacts to Search Warrant at Home of Missing Chula Vista Mom​

Chula Vista police served a second search warrant at the Chula Vista home of the missing mother of three, May 'Maya' Millete, Friday. Law enforcement spent several hours searching the home and removing items for the investigation. The warrant was served four months, to the date, since Maya went missing.

"It's very heartbreaking. It's a lot," said Maricris Drouaillet, Maya’s oldest sister. She told NBC 7 that Maya's three children and their grandfather were inside the home at the time of the search.

"It's very traumatic and my heart breaks for the kids. I know the 4-year-old doesn't know what's going on yet, but my 11 and 9-year-old nieces, I know they know what's going on," explained Drouaillet. "I wish I could've hugged them, but they didn't let us go in. I could just see from the window. I thought it was my niece, [but] it wasn't. It was the grandpa looking at us through the window and I just waved and just kind of yelled, I love them and hopefully we'll bring mommy soon."

She said Maya's husband, Larry Millete, cut ties between the children and Maya’s family a few months back. Larry has not been named as a suspect, but police said he stopped cooperating with the investigation.

NBC 7 is told he was not home at the time of the search.

"It seems like they were hammering pretty hard in the garage. They were lookin’," said Lilliana Burke. Burke met the family after Maya’s disappearance and has been leading weekly searches.

Chula Vista husband served gun violence restraining order, days before police search home​

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff's department has served Larry Millete a temporary gun violence restraining order.

Public records show the order was served May 5, two days before the Chula Vista police department served a second search warrant at the Millete home, four months after Maya Millete's disappearance.

According to the Sheriff's Department website, this type of restraining order is served in writing and signed off by the court. It prohibits the person from owning, purchasing, receiving, or having custody of any firearm, ammunition, or magazine.

Two days after the order was issued, police spent hours searching the Millete home. Officers were seen using K9s and loading boxes from inside the house into a vehicle.

ABC 10News reached out to Maya's sister and brother-in-law, who said they had no idea about the gun violence restraining order and said their family did not request it.


ABC 10News reached out to CVPD and the Sheriff's Department Sunday about the order and have not heard back.

I hadn't either so I went looking, specifically regarding California;

Are there different types of Gun Violence Restraining Orders?

All Gun Violence Restraining Orders do the same thing: take guns, ammunition, and magazines away from the restrained person, and prevent them from buying new ones. A Temporary or Emergency Gun Violence Restraining Order will last about 21 days. To have a longer Gun Violence Restraining Order (up to five years), there has to be a court hearing. At the court hearing the judge will consider all the evidence and decide whether to approve a Gun Violence Restraining Order for up to 5 years.

According to our local news they said the reason for this new specific gun possession restraining order is that the husband Larry Millete has over 20 guns with
15 of them being illegal. ( I heard he had a ghost gun as well.) LE learned Larry had dumped his illegal guns at others homes when he heard they were going to search warrant his home. Plus he's a danger to the community.
Larry purchased two of his guns since his
First search warrant order and
I believe told not to have guns for now.

I wonder then if they will have a hearing to make this more permanent instead of a temporary order? It seems like instead of just a restraining order it would be some type of charge if it is illegal.

They either have a New law similar to that here in Oregon, or they’re trying to get one passed. I can’t remember the status of it right now. But basically it is a good law my opinion because it takes away firearms from those who have been involved in any domestic violence..
