On November 14, 2007 a police officer discovered partial skeletal human remains in a remote wooded area off Hollandale Road in LaVergne, Tennessee. Investigators found no clothing at the scene, but there was jewelry with the remains: two bracelets, an Avon “Loveable Pets Stretch Bracelet” with pictures of cats, another with ceramic beads; and a gold-plated ring with light blue and amber-colored stones. A forensic scientist determined the remains were of a Black or Black/White female, 5’5” to 5’6” tall, between 25 and 49 years of age with short brown hair. The deceased’s teeth showed dental work. On Dec. 22, 1974 an unidentified woman's body was discovered under the Tramway down the mountain from the Ober Gatlinburg parking lot. W.B. Ogle, who was the police chief at the time, said hikers found the body. "We had the assistance of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the park service but nothing ever turned up," he said. Gatlinburg Police Capt. Randy Brackins, who was a cadet at the time, said former Detective Lester Rowland had a sketch made of the unidentified woman about 10 years ago but nothing turned up at that time either. On March 10, 2019 a homeowner walking near Douglas Lake in Dandridge, Tennessee reported seeing a suspicious bag next to the lake shore. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies determined the bag, which turned out to be a golf bag, contained human remains. The Regional Forensic Center in Knoxville was unable to provide much information about the deceased other than he was a male of uncertain race/ethnicity, possibly white, an estimated 5′ 7″-5′ 10″ tall, and an adult less than 40-years-old. A black Walking Dead t-shirt and a leather belt stamped with the name “Gerald” found with the remains were not helpful in identifying the deceased. The case is being treated as a homicide. Decedent was buried next to a spring and the changing water level caused most of the remains to be swept away. The investigating agency will be re-investigating the area sometime in Fall 2020 to search for additional remains.
