Silver Alert issued for woman who went missing with 8-year-old daughter

A Silver Alert has been issued for a south Charlotte mom who went missing with her 8-year-old daughter Monday afternoon.

Police say Megan Lori Stack, 33, picked up her daughter, 8-year-old Ava Stack from Bain Elementary School at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, but her father says she was never brought home.

The N.C. Center for Missing Persons has now issued a Silver Alert for Megan, meaning it is believed she is in danger and suffering from some kind of cognitive impairment.

Megan is thought to be driving a silver 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe with a 30-day paper tag on it.

Police: Amber alert denied for 8-year-old girl who went missing with mom

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating a missing woman and her 8-year-old daughter who were last seen in south Charlotte.

Police said Megan Stack, 33, and her 8-year-old daughter, Ava Stack, left their home on Cloister Drive around 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 4 and haven't been seen since.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department requested an Amber Alert for the 8-year-old girl, but the request was denied by the state due to it not meeting the restrictive criteria. Detectives say they are now applying for a Silver Alert for the mother based on her emotional state.

Stack and her daughter haven't returned home and their whereabouts are unknown. Because of Megan Stack’s emotional state and recent behavior, there is serious concern for their safety, police said.

Megan Stack was last seen wearing a maroon jacket, pants and black boots. She was driving a silver 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe with a paper tag. Her daughter, Ava, was last seen wearing a white short-sleeve shirt with a heart design on it, purple jeans, and grey shoes with a fuchsia zip-up jacket.

Missing mom, 8-year-old found safe near St. Louis

A missing Charlotte mom and her 8-year-old daughter were found safe near St. Louis, Missouri.

NBC Charlotte learned that Megan Stack voluntarily checked in for medical help there.

On Wednesday, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said both Megan and Ava are physically unharmed. Ava is expected to come back to North Carolina, but no there’s no exact timetable on that right now.

“We do have a successful resolution to this,” said CMPD spokesman Rob Tufano.

CMPD says Megan Stack was located near St. Louis Missouri, after checking into an EMS substation there.

“Voluntarily asking for medical assistance, she’s been taken off to the hospital for evaluation,” said Tufano.
