Police appeal for help to find Govanhill woman missing for five days

    22 Oct 2016

JANET McQueen, 58, was last seen by her neighbour leaving her home in Langside Road, Govanhill, Glasgow, around 10pm on Tuesday night.

POLICE are appealing for the public’s help in tracing a woman who has gone missing from her home in Glasgow .

Janet McQueen, 58, was last seen by her neighbour leaving her home in Langside Road, Govanhill, around 10pm on Tuesday night.

Janet is described as white, 5ft tall, slim build with short black hair. She was wearing glasses, a navy blue anorak and dark coloured trousers.

Detectives has asked anyone with information to come forward.

Inspector Gary Ritchie, Cathcart Police Office, said: “Earlier on Tuesday afternoon Janet had been on a bus in Baillieston where due to the fact she seemed a bit distressed, the bus driver called police who took her home to family.

"However, it would appear that around 10pm, she left her home again, this time saying to her neighbour that she was heading off to visit family – but it is unclear who in particular she was going to see.

“She didn’t take her dog with her – it is now with relatives – any money or her mobile on this occasion and so far, despite a search by officers in the area, checks via CCTV and with local bus and taxi companies, Janet has not been seen since Tuesday night.

“We have been speaking to family and friends who say that her being out of touch for this time is not like her at all, hence the cause for their concern and ours.

“Every morning, Janet usually goes to from her home in Langside Road to the Sir John Stirling Maxwell pub in Kilmarnock Road, Shawlands, for a cup of coffee and cake and sometimes later in the afternoon, the James Tassie public house, but she hasn’t been seen in either recently.

“I would appeal to anyone who knows Janet, or who may have seen her since Tuesday, to call officers at Cathcart Police Office via 101.”

THE sister of a woman missing for more than a week has said her family is "worried sick" about her.

Janet McQueen, 58, was last seen by her neighbour leaving her home in Langside Road, in the Govanhill area of Glasgow, at about 9pm on Tuesday, October 18.

She did not take her dog and left home without any money or her mobile phone.

Fiona Kilcoyne issued a direct appeal to her missing sister during a press conference at the city's Cathcart Police office.

She said: "Please get in contact, let us know that you are safe. We love you and we miss you."

Ms Kilcoyne described her sister as a sociable person who was fairly well-known around Govanhill.

The body of a woman who had been missing since last October has been found in a river in a Glasgow park.

Janet McQueen, 58, had not been seen since 18 October when she left her home in the city's Govanhill area.

Police Scotland have confirmed her body was recovered from White Cart Water at Pollok Country Park on Sunday 26 February.

Her death is not believed to be suspicious. Officers said a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
